The answer to 'how to become popular on Nostr" will very likely be the same as the answer to "how to become popular in meat space". Because there aren't centrally controlled algorithms in either.

💯. Popularity on nostr is earned and most fiat popular people don’t like that.
I think the better question is How can you promote yourself on Nostr? With no algorithm, people want to discover great accounts. If you're good, you'll do better here. But how can you first get their attention?
Do people want to "discover great accounts" or find people worth building relationships with? Do people want to waste their time in one-way, consumption focused relationships with npubs who won't even know their name? I think celebrity accounts that only care about gaining attention, and the revenue that comes with it, are NGMI on Nostr. Or at least, not helped by psychotic king-making algorithms (primal). I can only think of a few type of people who think along the lines of your note: politicians (sociopaths) and salespeople (scammers). Neither of which I want to make it easy to grow on Nostr.
Just look good, that's the key I know that people swoon over skull bats that represent metal music, which is why I go for this look.
Maybe. Seems like most people are brainwashed by a lifetime of social media platforms that turn them into attention-craving sociopaths. So I always second guess myself as to whether Nostr will just turn into the same thing.
Depends on how the community decides what notes they see, and what notes they don't see. Could be that people never rise up and let primal trending feeds take over.
Have the entrepreneurial spirit to find a way. Either to use what currently exists or invest in new solutions. Currently, small businesses that align with Bitcoiner culture can find customers by supplying goods that are hard to get. Showing up at real life events seems to do more good than zapvertizing at least. But if you're a podcaster making talking head content, I think you'll be hard pressed to stand out.
People fall for sweet talkers all the time and five them their time, energy, and money in real life. Zaps are pocket change for most people too. But then again, it is a lot easier on Nostr to post donation links where people end up sending substantial bitcoin payments because they think it's a good cause 🤔 Samecat never said if he got new teeth after all.
Still crashes amethyst? Newer version should work, but I've heard managing relays on it is a pain. No worries, you're not missing much lol, just wordles

I thought so as well. But put a donut in front of me and tell me it’s healthy, I’ll likely bite 🤷🏼‍♀️
Seems like you don't have this problem so you're not looking for the solution. But it is a problem on Nostr for lots of people I've met. Lots of people with very cool (Nostr) projects and ideas. We should be trying to make it easier for good ideas to grow. Not force everyone to master an extra and very difficult career.
I don't and I'm not. But even if I were, I wouldn't try to port over the practices of a century of propaganda turned marketing on the best social communication protocol ever invented.
Yes agreed! We can promote without being exploitative here thanks to Nostr and Bitcoin. We can rethink what that attention exchange looks like. We can have better solutions to this problem. I am working on one that is opt-in. Not trying to force it on anyone who doesn't want it. But it's an honest way to promote. Wish more were open-minded about what may be possible now that we're here.
I agree. The way I see it, people respond differently and mostly bcoz they were burned, exploited or manipulated before. But as you have highlighted it is an opt-in, it is an option not by forced. Those who resonate and relate with you will gravitate to your content. 🫂
