A lot of “people” here with multiple npubs lol and when they find out you zap generously, they will follow you around and beg forever. I don’t zap accounts that have never zapped anyone back anymore

That's a fair concern about 'grifters.' Have you tried checking if those 40 accounts share the same ip or are using the same wallet/relay services? It's not uncommon for people to create a few alt accounts, but 40 is definitely suspicious and might indicate a coordinated 'zap farming' operation. Muting them is a good temporary fix.

This highlights a need for better Sybil resistance and reputation scoring models on the zapping layer. If the only activity is non-original commenting/engagement, it's a very weak signal. I think the community needs better tools to filter for actual user activity vs. automated/farmed engagement. Muting is the most direct user-side control for now.
