I remember Zeus well from 2022-23 it did work to connect to own node but wasn't very stable but now, just s few years later, it is possible to handle nearly fully your lightning node. In addition it's possible to sign messages, use on chain transactions, swaps and since the newest version cashu. bravo 👏 Zeus that's how gods handle peer to peer electronic cash exchange. nostr:nevent1qqsrhdrysj8akqmgm8fdegergqutcfuk2h85xzd6yrh5vcs2yygek2qzyrey2my9jyp2q2p3h98d6q52w7uygckejaragxxgzc40wst2zthajqcyqqqqqqgcpeht9

I love zeus, but tbh it's almost a non starter for new people imo. The inbound liquidity problem is severe. Everytime I pay my friend (via lightning )it opens a new channel and costs like 5000 sats. Then if my friend wants to spend all the sats available he has to manually close all the lightning channels(10+) one by one to consolidate to an on chain balance. There are other issues, but the point is that Zues is a power user wallet only, not some great one stop solution.

Your friend can spend from all of his individual channels at the same time. You can even use swaps to make an onchain payment without having to close the channels out. There’s still some ways to go with the UX but we’re well on our way.

Is there an option in the app so that a new user can learn from playing (and making mistakes) with these new concepts (to them) - like channels and swaps - on testnet?; or, is the only option to learn from the experience of doing it live on mainnet?

... so even though there's testnet support for the embedded node, does lack of swaps support mean I would have to use something other than Zeus to get on-chain testnet coins into the embedded node in order to test it?

Yeah but I will say it doesn't seem to receive through all of his channels, it seems more likely to open a new channel. I could be wrong here though that was just me glancing at his channels

Yeah, that’s a constraint of the wrapped invoices. If he disables the LSP and uses hop hints instead, he should have no problem. Also recommended to purchase larger channels in advance instead of getting them as you need them to be more economical.

We do not provide coins for any test network. Even with swaps on testnet you’d still need to source your coins from elsewhere. You can always spin up a regtest node with the Polar desktop app and get familiar with ZEUS that way. One click in Polar to generate regtest coins.

If you do an aqua-style liquid integration, it will be the perfect all-in-one wallet to beat them all. Liquid is useful for long-term holding but still quick and cheap to transact. Because lightning channels, even when custodial, require you to be online frequently (to be trustless). I feel liquid offers a better "storage" option, while lightning is best for more frequent transactions.

Understood about sourcing coins. I believe the last time I tried Zeus on testnet - back in June - you were using Testnet3 (which I have) - but it was really only useful to test on-chain because I couldn't figure out how to swap to the embedded node. I don't have any regtest coins yet. Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a look-see in the near future.

Actually I just had a friend open a big channel to him, so problem sort of solved for now. But yeah buying inbound is not a bad idea.
