So I made a Nostr Rideshare Protocol, and two apps: Ridestr and Drivestr
It relies on no company and no proprietary servers. All communication and synchronization is Nostr. All ride fares are calculated locally by your phone using routing map data delivered via blossom on first launch, and It uses the locally running android geocoder and or GrapheneOS geocoder for name to address search experience. Default payment method is Cashu over Bitcoin/Lightning, but I plan to expand with Nostr Wallet Connect options, as well as a pay in cash option (that drivers can filter out if they don't want to deal with it). Wallets are synced via NIP-60 nostr wallets for cashu. All other app profile features are synced cleanly with nostr.
I will be open sourcing it of course when it's ready to launch. Android only so far, but I fully plan to make an IOS version if people like the idea.
The cashu implementation has been buggy, so I'm working through the bugs on that one day at a time, but let me know if you wanna see it!

@Nomishka this might be a project worth of reporting.
Thanks @Aida for pointing this out. I will dig into this. π€

Yes! This is very needed. Commercial rideshare apps are asking for government ID and that's a big problem.
they take 60-70% of the fare too, which sucks
Congratulations and awesome job building a software that addresses this market. The biggest challenge for Uber and Lyft was creating network effects. And battling license limitations / regulatory hurdles. Just a heads up as you start thinking about and working through adoption dynamics.
Sounds amazeballs.
Hope it goes P2P mainstream!
I have a plan!
I'd like to see it!
Building and using apps like this is so important. We need alternative systems outside of state control. You should be able to get from point a to point b without touching fiat or giving Uber your location data.

cheers, have passed to Dominic. As always with these 2-sided market plays, the tech is the easy bit.
Okay everyone, here is a demo!

WOW WHEN WILL IT GO LIVE π¨
I guess i can release it soon. I just need to throw an open source license in the repo and clean up a few things and i'll probably figure out how to throw it in Zap Store this week
Thatβs fantastic!
@Jerry Loves Freedom CHECK THIS OUT βπ»
Add propper warnings and ratings because in my region, we have similar concept "closed" app and they we're forced to add a small payments into the app because there was a lot of bad actors on the platform.
These kind of apps are useful P2P ride sharing apps indeed if done properly. Looking forward to see yours π±
I have an idea.
LFG! Finally a reason to drive! SWEET SWEET SATS!

GitHub?
Impressive
This is bad ass bro!! Well done!!
Technology based on Nostr that is really useful in the day to day.
I wonder if there can be any integration with zkp2p.xyz so that drivers can continue to receive sats even if npcs pay with their dirty fiat.
In Japan Uber had a lot of problems with taxi unions that did not want external competition. Uber is not available in Japan as it is in other countries. Although you can use the application and the service, what will come to pick you up is a fucking taxi of the usual.
But this, who can stop it?
Things like this might go unnoticed for a long time and then one day itβs ubiquitous. Social scaling is time intensive. Cool project.

I'm curious how to bootstrap this chicken/egg problem.
Network effects always have to happen first. Facebook started at elite colleges with an eager user base. Uber leveraged the VC network to aggressively expand (ignoring municipality objections), etc. Network effects are critical to achieve and almost impossible to overcome (look at Googleβs multiple failed attempts to create a social media networks after Facebookβs brilliant ascension).
There is a special sauce I'm working on to navigate the network effect thing. Will reveal when I'm finished with it. It's separate from these two apps.
I've been thinking about something like this. Exciting. Very important to get the reputation system/WoT just right with this kinda app. You wanna be confident your being picked up and driven by a trustworthy individual. Particularly women.
Hey! We really need to explore it. Do you hope to publicly release the apps and Git repos soon? We need more information. π€
it's released now and on zapstore! About to push another build in a couple of hours with some more bug fixes, too
Do you have a Open Source Git repo for it?
Thanks! You can expect your new tool in my Nostr Recap, which will publish today. :-)

What spread will you take between driver and passenger? The uber fee eg is massive. You can see drivers wanting more of their revenue adopting something like this, whilst users will migrate if there is enough optionally and itβs priced more competitively
Very cool to see things like this being built!
Give it to proper marketers (drop mentions of Nostr, Lightning, etc; focus on freedom from Uber corp, 100% retained earnings), and I believe it can fly!

There is no spread. The only fee is transaction fees by the mint (defaulted to minibits with a ~1% withdrawal fee)
It would be interesting if existing rideshare drivers could somehow associate their ratings from centralized platforms to bootstrap their credibility on this new system.
I've gotta see this, it's probably an easy sell to drivers if the fees are just transaction fees.
This is a key part of my strat for the next big update.
see post today!
