Or that they'd be resistant (even to the point of systemic suicide) to a system that is antithetical to (at least their mode of) theft?
I think some people might be sadly, but there won’t be any more loving forward that’s for sure.
I think states and countries will compete on an honest ledger and citizens will choose and move to where/what they value. In other words, competition in a free market will reduce/eliminate them over time.

When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed. Ayn Rand
Inflation and taxes and tariffs are all theft of different kinds. At the base layer of "society"? In no way is it representing a civilisised society. It means we are barbarians lacking the communicational skills of organising in a voluntary/consensual way. I refuse to accept this. Which ironically makes me an enemy of the current system.
Not only does it require theft, it IS theft. Fractional reserve banking reminds me of the anti-free-speech laws in effect in many European countries. You are essentially required to believe (or feign belief) in something that is manifestly not true: Your deposits are simultaneously "lent out" and also "still there in your account" at the same time.

No. What’s surprising is that this knowledge is not widespread, and that this system just keeps on going indefinitely.

Be interested to see if you change your mind about BC. I love it here. Best place on earth in my ‘current’ opinion.

Everybody as you say is still just turning back to the system and giving it strength. Steady as she goes one mind at a time.

No one who read your book is surprised!
There are three types of people. Those who aren't surprised, those who have no clue or interest in what you're talking about, and the those who benefit from the theft and support it. The vast majority are the second type.

"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it." -Frédéric Bastiat
