Growing Nostr is hard. Not because we don't have the tools, but because it requires the hard work of many of us, not just the few. Decentralization is great, however this means that no centralized growth team is going to step in and do the work that's needed. We'll have to rely on a multitude of people to accomplish this. These people will be cultivating and nurturing Nostr's growing ecosystem. They're seeking out unique communities, on-boarding new users, and educating them on the tools at hand, so that new users can create their own spaces on Nostr. These have been initiatives of mine since the beginning days here. I love building communities, helping people use technology, and speaking about my passions. Many people across Nostr are working on similar initiatives, trying to #grownostr and foster community. @Tanja is one of them. We spoke at extent last week about her current project. She volunteered at the Nostr Booth that I organized at @BTC Prague a few months ago, got purple pilled in the process, and is now planning on doing similar initiatives at three Latin American conferences coming up soon. I had a conversation with the organizer of LaBitConf in Prague, who expressed a strong interest in having a Nostr presence at his upcoming conference. He asked that I replicate the same level of involvement he witnessed in Prague, including a booth, speakers, panels, and more. He clearly recognized the significance of Nostr and was eager to feature it prominently at his event. Unfortunately, I had to decline, as it’s not feasible for me to attend every conference. However, this is where the strength of the Nostr community comes in—others can step up and make it happen. This is what Tanja is doing! Check out her project.

We will have two big conferences in Brazil in November : satsconf (which is bitcoin only, so I’m not sure they’d accept a Nostr booth), and bitconf, which is broader. @Lucas Ferreira 🇧🇷⚡️ @ivy galindo what do you think about a Nostr booth in satsconf? I don’t think the organizers of bitconf are here, but I’ll forward that to them, see if they are interested.
How about Bitconf? I have the contacts of the organizers, but they don't use nostr. Should I ask them to get in touch with you, or someone else, about the booth? Is it interesting to have a nostr booth there?
Only in the way that bitcoin is hard. Its not a coincidence that the mindset of the majority of people here is similar. Average people don’t understand the “why” we’re here or “why” we’re putting energy into something that they think X is doing better. That fundamental misunderstanding means they wont come here until later in the censorship game. Just Look at the surge we experienced when youtube demonetized a bunch of btc shows a few weeks ago. This is just how sheeple think.
I truly agree. Until it affects them and their livelihood, it is not going to be easy. If I may give my penny to the subject, when average non-techy non-bitcoin users onboard on Nostr, will get intimidated when they see bitcoin trending or most discussion is bitcoin. I am not saying that it is a bad thing. All I am saying is it would be great to see community other than bitcoin to use as a storytelling to join Nostr — the why! I say this as someone who joined nostr last Apr, left for 2 months because I was confused when most of the feeds where bitcoin. But I persevered and had to find my way. ☺️
A centralized architectural team with a dedicated budget offers advantages, particularly in terms of efficiency. However, such centralization can become a target for state actors to introduce subtle vulnerabilities into the core design, potentially compromising security or stifling future innovation. Even without malicious contributors, no centralized team can anticipate every possible use case, leading to the well-documented issue of protocol ossification. The most effective approach is to allow the design process to evolve organically within a federated community of voluntary contributors, which is how Nostr began. We should not sacrifice flexibility in the pursuit of perfection. Just as in nature, the most efficient designs emerge over time, even if they leave behind a few vestigial elements.
I won’t be in Brasil those dates, still in El Salavador. Happy to have a conversation with the organisers and see how we can make this happen! 🙏
This makes me soo happy! I could see both perspectives, and I’m really glad you two had a talk and worked things out. 💜
npub.pro is the best way to expose nostr to your circle of influence .. out side nostr .. it brings them right to nostr log-in door .. without any preaching whatsoever ..
That’s why it’s hard for me to understand why people close themselves off from the other networks just to do social here and only here.
I simply invite people to come explore nostr and let them make their own choices. Myself, I have only been here a month. I'm still learning and eventually I might be able to give zaps .

It would be great to learn more about the technical aspects of how to build on nostr. The foundation however, freedom of speech, is what makes it cool.
We all have to do our part, Nostr is the only place where my videos are not censored, so I’ve been trying to reciprocate and help the platform by bringing more people.
Maybe we should be putting Nostr stickers with a QR code on them next to the Bitcoin stickers we’re placing around town. Why not? They go hand in hand.

are you coming to #ElSalvador for @Adopting Bitcoin @Tanja as heard from @jess that you are are a Bitcoin warrior that values #freedom and #sovereignty , did you know that @BitTasker is being built on Nostr ? Maybe we should work together on the Nostr booth to #grownostr or set up own our booth at the conference to share the #p2p vision , its about how we can all weaponize and monetize our skills whilst getting paid in #bitcoin
