Agreed. Nostr is the "final" place. But stuff in the Fediverse tends to be better developed and have far more users.
Nostr's still a pretty "rough" UX, especially for anything that's outside of basic Kind 1 microblogging.
It'll get better but for now IMHO if I'm recommending decentralized tech for Normies it's probably going to be something closer to fediverse.

Also, putting children at risk is like, the most popular use case of Discord. I woild be very surprised if they require IDs.
