I love this! I've said for nearly four years now that I wanted the NFT crowd to build on Nostr. I wanted them to build their community using Nostr tools instead of using Twitter and Discord. Hell yeah. Keep building. Fuck NFTs in the traditinal sense. A Cashu NFT is pretty cool though, because it's actually money.

Nostrich will soon begin rolling out a collection of 21,000 NFTs as digital collectibles, released gradually in small batches at random times over an extended period. Users will be able to claim them for free, display them on their profiles as badges, share them with anyone, and even buy or sell them directly through profile pages or on Nostrich Marketplace using #Bitcoin. We're bringing a digital collectibles economy to Nostr, with more features to follow. All 21,000 NFTs will be released for free on a first-come, first-served basis. image

My brain has never understood the difference between an NFT and a copyright protected image. I can read about it and just go "huh." Is it like trading cards on blockchain for teenagers to go nuts for ? Is it the supposed scarcity ?
This is excellent! The full potential of #nft is still to be discovered.
Nostr is where people should be building! Keep it decentralized and keep stacking sats. ⚡🧡
Short version, from how Cashu itself works (I couldn't find Nostrich's own spec, so this is the protocol rule, not their docs): - A Cashu token is a blind signature made with one mint's keys. Only that mint can check it and redeem it. The Cashu FAQ puts it plainly: each mint has its own tokens. - Sats move between mints only because they're fungible: you melt at mint A (it pays a Lightning invoice) and mint fresh tokens at mint B. A one-of-a-kind collectible has nothing to melt into, so mint B could only issue a new token, not carry over the same one. - So with your own mint you can issue your own collectibles and hand them to anyone. Person-to-person transfer is a normal swap at your mint (NUT-03). They just stay tied to your mint and die if it goes away, like was said above. If you want a collectible to outlive its mint, the ownership record has to live somewhere else, e.g. signed Nostr events, with the mint only handling the payment.
Archimedes said leverage is power. Decentralized ownership is the ultimate leverage over the state. Do not mistake the tool for the master. Build your sovereign wealth on your own terms.
It's also dumb to expect that everyone on Nostr will pass any particular purity test. I think it's sketchy and dumb but having it all is the only way a protocol like this can or will ever work.
One catch with a Cashu NFT: the token is a bearer claim against a specific mint, and it gets redeemed at that same mint. The holder presents it, the mint verifies the signature, destroys the token, and pays the equivalent bitcoin out over Lightning.
It’s very cool tech but I’m concerned there is no provenance— a creator and buyer do not benefit from a record of sale or even the artist’s signature, as far as I can tell.

Nfts are just entries on a blockchain. They can be useful to manage access rights, such as ticketing.
