My brain has never understood the difference between an NFT and a copyright protected image. I can read about it and just go "huh." Is it like trading cards on blockchain for teenagers to go nuts for ?

Blockchain NFTs are dumb. They don't mean anything or ownership. They're essentially scams. Anyone can download the image.
Nfts are just entries on a blockchain. They can be useful to manage access rights, such as ticketing.
