I've been using GrapheneOS for a month now. I would say that I'm happy to be farther disconnected from Alphabet Corp. I'm glad not to have so many Google apps on my phone that I cannot remove. Complaints being I miss some small silly things like being able to say "Hey, Google" then ask a question or set a timer which I often do for tasks. My biggest complaint is the keyboard experience seems to be rough. The autocorrect/grammar seems funky. I still mess with the settings. Could be my own fault. The emoji keyboard is the biggest issue. It seems to be missing a third of the emojis. The fact that I do not have a cucumber emoji available to me is ridiculously upsetting.

Ah yes, you did a review? You'll be happy to know I'm planning on taking the plunge next month (timing works best for me then). The soft-bullying of a few people has convinced me it's time. Where do I find the review? Gonna check your TL
Ahh, so there is a bit of friction. Sounds pretty minimal though. I do like timers...not so much cucumber emojis, but there are likely others I use which might not show up. Planning on dual wielding when I do make the switch though, so maybe I can manage. What about stuff like banking app, music (Spotify), etc. All good?
Got a bit of travel upcoming so will get to this when I return. Noted though 🫑
This where I made a mistake the first time. I did exactly this without knowing about the carrier unlock.
do not disturb is called 'modes', you can have more than one .. its pretty kewl. pretty sure thats all new androids but maybe you just didnt see it.. and also, now you know why my notes have no extra punctuation or caps πŸ˜‚
So, they’re still using unsupported apps, nice.πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Also, there was another option if you wanted to break away from Google, join #teamapple, you would get the same level of security without having to jump through hoops. 😁
- Keyboard is customizable with 3rd party FOSS, even for local voice recognition - Messaging is customizable and searchable with 3rd party FOSS - No, you can't search emojis, that I know of - There is 100% a do not disturb, as well as a sleep mode - You can configure restart behavior in settings
xapo works with GPS in ... what's it called, firewalled? controlled? anyway, yeah, xapo works, it just needs play services and it is ok with the sandboxed version. i also was able to run it on a rooted motorola defy previously. but most banking apps won't work on graphene. i keep that in a separate user so it's not awake unless i need it to be. i also often need gmaps and that works of course. the lack of push is the main problem i get, but signal and telegram have fallbacks to polling, at the cost of a bit more battery. my favourite thing about graphene OS is when you install BLE radar. graphene disables the beacon so other devices don't know it's around and initiating pairing or whatever. i see all these apple labeled devices, maybe 80% of the devices that are telling everyone where they are. definitely if i need to ever be in an airport again especially in some dodgy place i'll be watching out for similar looking beacons appearing even as i am moving around, can be from someone dropping an airtag, those are easy to recognise because it says apple lol.
As far as I can tell it's identical. I think it even learns words. Only thing it wont do is search for gifs obviously.
I haven't updated in a while. Does the keyboard let you drag to write letters instead of tapping one by one?? 🫠🎲
You can install the Google keyboard (Gboard) and GraphineOS allows you to remove Internet access for that app. Still private
