I’m always impressed at just how dark the shithole of ragebaiting Xitter is, and just how nice Nostr really is. Goes to show how the algo is designed for hate and that humanity on a whole is actually pretty great.

Pretty wild once you get away from it. The doom fog lifts and things are just hopeful. It really is the two sides of the train meme.
Nostr may not actually be a representative sample of all of humanity. But it might be, and you should totally enjoy your bubble. At the very least humanity is definitely not as bad as twitter, facebook, instagram, or tiktok's algorithms would make it seem. And it turns out that humans who self select for private property and free speech aren't actually all hate mongering oppressors, despite what you may have heard, and really just sort of tend to be pretty chill folk that respect your right to do what you want with your things and your thoughts.

Deleted X as soon as I discovered Nostr. X runs on outrage. Nostr runs on signal. The algorithm feeds division because that sells ads. When you remove that incentive, people actually act like humans again.
Agreed, but to be fair, if we had the mass of people on here that are on the bigger platforms, it would change. I always push back a little against working on nostr for growth's sake. Maybe it should be harder to be on here. Maybe we should be a little exclusive. Maybe we shouldn't want everyone. There were far less people on the Cypherpunk Mailing List, and that list changed the world. What we really want is to be the place for creative people, for those are the people that give more than they take. Are you writing a book? Are you coding a client? Are you cooking a fantastic dinner? That is who I want in my web of trust.

There's a striking difference between X & Nostr. X had an addictive element, probably due to the algorithm. Tweets seem to go into the ether unless you have a sizeable following or get retweeted by someone who has. Nostr feels quieter for sure and its taken me a while to get my head into it but mostly to push past that lack of algorithmic stimulus. Much like Bitcoin there's a certain proof of work element and you get out what you put in. The discussions and insights I've gained here are second to none. They are authentic and stimulating in a good way - ethnically & spirituality. There's less hate and more hope. Refreshing. View quoted note →

I try to avoid Twitter tbh Our attention is our greatest resource The capital allocation decision of our day And the value I get out of Nostr each day genuinely enriches me People care They respond with respect and value The sharing of opinions, view points, experience Much like what meeting in person is actually like Never been more bullish on Nostr
Love this. But one thought: if there was the same volume of users on Nostr as X, but you only followed 500, then in theory you don’t see, interact, get clickbaited by the others. The user designs their own experience on Nostr, rather being fed one
Not at all: it just shows that high IQ people (who have moved to NOSTR because they’re early adopters) are nicer
I would even say another reason besides the algorithms, also by having the option to connect your publications to all the relays and servers you want, the tactic that Twitter, Facebook and YouTube users followed would no longer work, because by having more control of your account and deciding what to upload and what not, you no longer have to depend on a single server and wait for its owners to approve your content.
I think the reason why many people on other pages also behave like this is because most of us are stressed by spending a lot of time on pages that limited you every time you could, what you could publish and what you couldn't, in the end seeing that a controversy did allow, everyone in the end decided to give in to talk about controversy and used that to get all the frustration that the algorithm causes them.

Tried Twitter for two months. It was damaging my brain. Deleted it. Now I’m mentally ill at the state of the world on my own terms lol.

People for the most part want to feel safe. They feel that way by showing respect because they have an expectation it will be reciprocated. Its actually crazy how much has changed. The medicine is freedom and an open internet. The snake oil is censorship.
It is pretty jarring just going back into it and hitting such an ad fueled experience. Here at least the ads are fun and generally people selling stuff they made that is awesome. Will be interesting to see what a proper ad protocol looks like here. I got half of the idea in my head already.
You know come to think of it, I’m never stressed on Nostr whereas on X I’m always telling myself; let it be, it’s not worth it to every ragebait

NOSTR as a philanthropic engine. A dream?
You do seem very angry when I’ve heard you speak… Maybe ditch the program? It only remains because people using it, stop using it and it magically disappears.
If I am ever feeling good about the world and decide I need some anger and hate in my life, I go and fire up the old Xitter for a couple of minutes.
Agree.. Xitter amplifies outrage, Nostr amplifies authenticity. When you remove the algorithmic manipulation, you see that most people are actually kind, curious, and creative. Humanity isn’t broken, the algorithms are.
I can't believe this stupid Nostr echo chamber. Erik Cason the fucking ultimate toxic pleb has put flowers in his hair and is giving free hugs. All the while Coretards have turned Bitcoin into free cloud storage for spammers. And we are all fine here and it's Xitters fault that people are 'ragebaiting'. GFY Erik!!! At least people at Xitter are willing to stand up and to fight for Bitcoin. Have a nice nap here!!!

What i meant is that X, like any other social media, promotes posts that make people angry and emotionally reactive. Outrage gets attention.People comment, share, and argue and their activity keeps users on the platform longer

Yes, thata why i deleted X and now i am only on nostr.
A dead man didn’t show up on Nostr to defend himself so you had to? You didn’t defend anything or anyone. You made baseless claims, refused to back your claims, accused me of judging you, called my religion trash, then ran. Picking a fight then loosing doesn’t mean the other person picked the fight.
Are you trolling? Everything I stated about our interaction is absolutely true, the notes are still there, and you still haven’t backed a single one of your claims. I’m out 🫡
I’ve left twitter for about a year now. I reacted in depth to something concerning my profession wherein I have 20 years experience. The amount of hate I received just for raising a critical view was unbelievable.
