It’s been a running joke in Bitcoin that if someone is asking wallet questions they are a BTC newb. It was a stupid joke to mock them to signal you were a Veteran.
Turns out we should have been talking about wallets and entropy the whole time because a lot of people missed truly understanding this. It’s a good reminder to be more mindful and helpful.

I have an mk4 for some of my stack. I used the 100 dice roll entropy option at set up. Still not feeling comfy right now despite assurances from some. Will probably move my funds off of it.

I’m actually changing how I custody myself. I was single sig which is not as secure as multi sig with 2 different devices and I’ve never kept my wallet at my house but that’s another rabbit hole and I’m keeping my exact protocol private.
Yeah the signal there got so lost in so much other BS noise.
Interesting we didn’t really have retail show up this last muted bull run and paper bitcoin summer of last year that we didn’t talk personal security as much and hardware setups from a layman’s perspective.
At least it felt different than in years past. Usually there’s an incoming class that needs teaching and we all relearn ourselves and pass on the knowledge.
Certainly a ton of them would have been onboarded to ColdCards, so double-edged sword there.
That’s important too. Really that’s the whole root but look at reading comprehension and how many people here have trouble with that. There needs to be better foundational principals.
Stay humble or thy shall be humbled. 😆
@Helen Yrmom the mocking was the expensive part. everyone who stopped asking wallet questions in public is someone who never found out where their entropy came from.
I 100% agree, but don't forget that the mocking happened in both directions. And humans are humans.
When you tell someone to put in the work they are going to resist and they are often going to be very mean about it, and they are often going to rub it in your face for as long as all the things that you tell them could go wrong, never goes wrong.
Finally, we have a real world story that we can use to get people to take us seriously. This one hit hard. We will get better. Sometimes things need to happen before things can get better.
Some of us have been talking about this for a loooong time.
100%. Multi-vendor multisig is the way to go.
You can even do a simple 2-of-2, where one is on your hardware wallet, and the other is on the computer. An attacker would need to exploit a vulnerability like the current one AND hack your specific computer.
And that option doesn’t require and additional hardware. Just a software wallet like Sparrow or Blue Wallet.
Plus, the multivendor multisig stacks with other best practices. You can use pass phrases (25th words), you can use dice for generation, and these work just fine along with multisig.
Defense in depth.

I’ve been exploring different perspectives in the crypto space, and I’ve come across Paul Jon's content a few times. What stands out to me is his focus on risk management and staying patient rather than chasing quick profits. I don’t think there’s a single ‘perfect’ approach to trading, but it’s useful to learn from different viewpoints and then build your own strategy over time. Some of his ideas seem practical, especially for people who are still trying to understand market behavior. At the end of the day, everyone has to test what works for them and stay consistent. The market is always changing, so having a balanced mindset and being open to learning is probably more important than following any one method blindly. Just sharing my thoughts based on what I’ve seen so far.”
