I’ve heard Saifedean allude to this. Makes sense to me. All our knowledge of nuclear programs come from government agencies.
Much of the old test footage looks fake.
The idea is that we have big bombs, but not so big to destroy a city in one drop.
People claiming this is some kind of "gotcha" are idiots.
The whole time Israel and the US, among others, were sabotaging the Iranian nuclear program, e.g. with stuxnet. Of course it languished at "1-3 years away" for years.
Iran finally got an edge and started making good progress. So Israel decided to put an end to that.
