Try to exist in more remote areas for 3-6 months at a time every year. It's a stark reminder that you need all the internal combustion things, and spares. Gas is life, it maintains life, it saves lives. City living is fake. It's fun and all, but you are just outsourcing all the things you think you hate to outside the city to be brought back to you packaged and triple washed.

Also why urban areas have more leftist policy leanings. The people that provide most things in their lives are either distant or anonymous, and urban dwellers are geographically incapable of self-reliant living. No judgement here, just obvious evolutionary pressures.

Diesel vehicles are objectively superior. I had a mk4 TDI and got 300k miles from the motor before I sold it. It never missed a start, leaked no oil, got 40mpg and was still running strong when I sold her. Miss that vehicle. I got another TDI that is an absolute beast and I own a 7.3 Liter Ford power stroke f250 that has 250k miles and it works perfectly, leaks no oil. Can’t beat the diesels.

With SCR and DEF, running on renewable diesel, they are also the most environmentally β€œresponsible” vehicles on the road.

It’s not. My dad was diesel mechanic and has owned several. My best friend fixes cars for a living and own 6 diesels (lol) and he turned me on to TDIs. As he says without hesitation, β€œthey’re the best cars.” And they are. My sister has a TDI and my brother has 2 also πŸ˜‚ my dad and another friend of my mine all own ford 7.3 liter diesel from 2001-2002. All have been insanely reliable.

Also I’ve done a lot of research outside of personal anecdotes on diesels platforms. It’s the technically superior technology. Gas platforms are fine, just not as good.

If you can, find renewable diesel. They are slightly different chemically, biodiesel is an ester and as such can be rough on the seals in your injection pump and lines. Renewable is refined from biological sources, so closed carbon loop, but chemically is more pure than fossil fuel diesel. It will eliminate soot in the EGR valve and DPF.

Not renewable diesel. It isn’t an ester. It’s the double bonded oxygen at the end of the carbon chain that can cause trouble in high concentrations. Up to 20% biodiesel is probably harmless. Renewable diesel doesn’t have that problem.

Diesel cycle engines are inherently more efficient because they don’t rely on stoichiometric ratios for ignition. Mechanical diesels don’t need electrical systems of any kind to function either. Because they rely on combustion chamber temperatures for fuel ignition, cold starts can be rough. Starting tip: turn off the fuel, crank the cold engine for 20 seconds, while continuing to crank, turn on the fuel. If that doesn’t work, try a quick shot of ether while cranking with fuel on.
