Altruism doesn’t scale for platforms or protocols. Incentives and technology do. Platforms and protocols need to be utterly die-hard resilient and aligned with incentives and technology in order to persist. Dumb, stupid, basic protocols at the base with complicated and controversial shit built on top. On top of die-hard platforms and protocols we can build altruistic clusters, but those clusters are not universal enough to serve as the platform or protocol itself. Bitcoin is for enemies. Any platform like Twitter or even more-so any protocol like Nostr is for enemies too. As long as you can pay. That seemed obvious, but in recent months it seems apparently not obvious. If there is a core bug with incentives that could be fixed, then by all means advocate for a fix. But otherwise, what exists will persist. Bitcoin is like the Dude, and the Dude abides. image

if you really believe in good and freedom you will be expected to make some personal sacrifices for it but nobody can be expected to survive without food or shelter etc. and anybody fighting for a cause can and should expect to be blacklisted and fired from big tech platforms thus if you're running a relay or a client or whatever you have every right to charge for it that said i will not donate. i am happy to pay for a good service but i won't pay for a service that is free. i'm a JEW ( literally ). sorry.
i pay for a variety of premium digital services - music, porn, hosting, VPN - but in every case i am paying a small price for an excellent product that is unmatched by anything free. i would pay to use NOSTR if it met the same criteria.
“Dudeism advocates and encourages the practice of "going with the flow", "being cool headed", and "taking it easy" in the face of life's difficulties, believing that this is the only way to live in harmony with our inner nature and the challenges of interacting with other people.” Bitcoin, like the Dude, is ultimately true neutral. image

In Eden, especially in any digital Eden, altruism beckons, begs, and barters for blessings. However, Reality remains. Behold humanity's pragmatism. Servants and Savages ,even our sacrificial acts often carry selfish motives. Like Adam, we reject utopia when faced with desire or survival, the ideals fade into the obscurity of the dark. We humans thrive not only in idealism but also in pragmatic practices amidst scarcity. Though tempted by the allure of pure altruism, we know that our world is shaped by incentives and technology. Surrendering to any proposed utopia denies the stark realities of our existence, as we grapple with its nearly rational complexities.

IRC is a platform/protocol that runs just fine on altruism, so is IPFS, Bittorrent etc.
