Something doesn't have to be a crystal to form crystaline structures. Silicone is also a rock, but all our technology depends on the fact that it likes to form crystals. Make a big and uniform silicone crystal and you can start etching chip designs onto it.

But you are wrong about all rocks being crystals. In popular nomenclature, crystals tend to be sparkly, transparent, and geometric. Rocks don't match very well. Just like how in popular nomenclature, tomatos and bananas aren't fruits.

You can add 1% silica to stone and it will not make it a crystal. You have to have enough to where the properties start behaving as a crystal and not rock. These rocks do not have that.
It also takes more than that. Crystals form from layers of specific minerals creating sheets of molecular bonding so they then start behaving with crystal properties. You can att 99.9% crystal dust to a little rock and it'll never be crystal, since the process of the formation is critcal as well.
This is rock--no crystal sheet layering took place in this rock. There's no evidence of it, nor is it possible, since it's rock.

Great. And the rocks here are not the kind of crystal that break along layered matrix lines. They are rock. This is not basal. It is not mica. You can hit this all day with a sledge hammer and you will not be able to get it to split along predictable flat planes. You would have to use a chisel and break of tiny pieces at a time to eventually get a flat surface.
