"...propose criteria for establishing such a stockpile, potentially derived from cryptocurrencies lawfully seized by the Federal Government through its lawenforcement efforts." Looks like they'll look to seize instead of buy. Not great! image

They were talking about selling it not too long ago.. so maybe one step in the right direction
People: LOL US government is auctioning all its seized bitcoin, what a bunch of morons! Same people: they’re gonna fund SBR with seized bitcoin - gangster government! I believe DOJ is required to auction seized assets so perhaps the “seized” BTC referenced will be purchased by the UST from the DOJ. Any clarification welcome!
While I share your Paranoia / sentiment, I feel like this is likely language signaling the Silk Road coins being potentially used to form the SBR. Given the context that most of their coins come from seizures of bitfinex and silk Road, And they have previously signaled that one of the major ways an EO could establish a stockpile is by redirecting those seized funds, it seems appropriate that they would move to use the ones they already hold (regardless of whether they acquired them through theft) . just my two Satoshis

Disagree. This is likely included so they can lawfully hoard already-seized coins. #6102 #FUD isn't helpful. One cannot seize something they cannot touch, digitically or physically. Additionally, the US would see a flight of wealth they simply cannot afford. This isn't to say they won't try to seize account balances, but if you've been in #bitcoin for more than five minutes you should know #NYKNYC. View quoted note →

Expectations were low, but this still didn’t even reach them.
