This is what happened to all the Nostr influencers I think

While I'm sure it's an actual note that you've shared, this is still a fairly appropriate thing to follow that statement.

It's your fault if you get influenced by random people online. It's my opinion as a nostr influencer.
It was a post by @existing sprinkles about
Nobel disease - Wikipedia
It did eventually load for me. I follow her so idk why it wasn't showing initially. When stuff like that happens I just say "oh well, nostr is nostring."
Happens to us all. I get 4 likes and my dopamine shoots through the roof and I'll start posting about how everyone should live their life.
Enjoy that dopamine hit.
Basically what I was going to say XD In that wiki article id be willing to bet those people had those controversial opinions prior to the award. I'm sure I have a billion. I know I've had plenty "you should do x" posts. Probably wouldn't change, but from the consumer perspective it appears as empowerment as they see this information more.
Oooh yeah...that's good stuff. I got a zap and a like on that reply.
Hear ye, hear ye! I declare that biological men should not play in women's sports. Politicians are all bad and voting harder solves nothing. You are a Statist fool if you think otherwise. War is bad and bitcoin fixes this!
What I find most amusing is how many nostriches I meet who are convinced they are influencers because they make the primal trending page often...
Like baby there's only a dozen active users world wide at any given point. Where all trending influencers in this space 🤣
We all just want to be popular 🫠
We're not where 🙄
Humans be that way 🤣
I've given more ferry advice to NOSTR plebs than anybody in my position should be allowed to 😂
One nice side effect of nostr being so small, is whatever little bit of clout-seeking drive I came here with, and I'm willing to admit it was non-zero, has pretty much been wiped out completely at this point. It's been interesting to notice it in myself. It didn't manifest so much as looking for direct attention for my posts, but in other little ways, like following the bigger accounts and caring a lil bit about who followed me etc.
Hey 12 people is a party!
Ain't no party like a Nostr party cause the Nostr party DON'T QUIT!!!!
Nostritis 🧐
for sure! I could probably say the same thing but 2023 nostr was different lol. Nostr has that effect. People here are quite intelligent I think and can sniff that stuff out. I think it's the same reason our feeds don't have hardly any ads in them, only ones produced by humans who have trusted interactions. No one will survive with low effort adverts like they can on other socials. I have known enough people try nostr and leave, not because of technical reasons, just because they expected to be able to post like FB or twatter and just funnel people to their site, or newsletter or whatever.
And I'm like - hey we came here because we all got fed up with other platforms, we can smell bs a mile away. We (I anyway) wanted real interactions. 10 years ago I was heavily involved in FB groups/communities which was a huge deal. But similar, in that were here to talk about something specific, and you get to know people because you interact with them enough.
Yeah, there's definitely a savvier user base when it comes to that. I think there's a little bit of an element of having to earn your engagement (what little you get), where people don't like to "give it up" for newer accounts, that's a bit of an over-correction, if that makes sense.
I think if there's ever much growth though, it'll change, and that's fine, I'll at least have gotten a decent set of good connections from the earlier days.
Am curious, what do you mean when you say 2023 nostr was different? Was it more like trad social media content because there was a wave of people here? I only checked in a few times in the early nostr days (I wanna say mostly 2022, but I could be wrong), and it was so broken and dead-feeling that I didn't stick around (I couldn't even set my pfp to an image lol).
> where people don't like to "give it up" for newer accounts, that's a bit of an over-correction, if that makes sense.
Agreed yeah. Too skeptical maybe, but also look where we are now. 50% of shared content is LLM generated text or images, and from people we know XD Then you get rugged over an over by a gaggles of influencers
Joking, but I think back then, for me anyway, it was more opinionated (believe it or not) and the only engagement you got was on bolt statements. I like to think my bold posts _were_ intentional and meant something and still stand by many of my idealistic positions, but those things got to the primal trending list.
I mean it was also fun seeing @Laeserin playing with those trending systems, primal, nostr.band and others. She could stir the pot 3 times a day breaking everyone's analytics with an article link and a one-liner. Proving that all the trendy software was broken and part of the reason they all hate her XD
But yeah I think it was way more influencers in the feeds. Picking fights with strangers in the comments. It was much more work tuning your follows, finding alternate feeds. Stuff broken even more than it is now. Knowing that no matter what you replied to there was a 10% chance you'd get a response.
I think there was more subculture too. You'd see more chats about religion, or economics, or other nostr topics, like how I met @MichaelJ and @Laeserin working on a sub culture of nostr technology. Nostr social was buzzing away but many of us were brainstorming on the outskirts.
But yeah 22 was bad. I think my first client experience was Iris. I spent all of 2023 building my signer while lurking and it was finally working by august 2023 so I could interact with a few different aliases. I think 24 was a good year in general for nostr, things were more stable, we were pooping on primal, there were meetups being discussed.
You know what I forgot? People had corny chat and hivetalk rooms daily or even weekly were us randoms just hopped in and chatted. There were also copious live streams of events like sports ball many of us just popped in to hang out. I do miss that.
2024 was the first year Nostr felt less like a science project and more like a weird town square.
Still messy, but at least the weirdness is user-owned.
I'd heard legend of these nests and hives, but it seems there are only a handful of people who do that these days. I came in August 2024 iirc, and don't recall much of that going on. Surprised there aren't more voice channels running 24/7, that stuff is addictive usually
hmm. I feel like fall 24 was pretty peak but I'm sure my time is distorted lol. The past few years have been whack for me
Hit you 3x reacts and maybe a zap will go through, might even boost this comment. Gotta get that ego pumped for word5 😂.
*Clutches pearls You mean I'm not as cool as I think I am??? Vapors incoming...
YOU ARE THE COOLEST YARN LADY DON'T FRET 🥰
Phew, vapors averted 😂. Thank you 🫂💜

Just being in the presence of such a renown Brit and author counts for something?
It was a close call, glad I had a fainting couch handy and smelling salts 🤭🤣
Dunno maam, back in 2023/24 it was a group of like 15 people who got to speak and occasionally the controversial men vs. women post, or the eat ze bugz and liv in ze podz article.
Like penis butter, or other trendy goofy shit. "keep nostr weird" with a photo of someones toe picking their nose or something
I always do, because I am a drama queen 💅
Dang 15 people?! 🤯
No wonder people say it's dead by comparison 🤣
Nostr is a fucking ghost town since like April compared lol
True, but I understand it's difficult to count at the Planck scale 😂
My sense of time has been off since Covid. My sanity maybe
Yeah the past 5-6 year did a number on my suspension XD
I've moved on to other pursuits (toggle). Word5 is for nerds
True but then Einstein came along to remind us that all mass has potential :)
You'll be sorry!!
🥁
True. But I think it is not a nostr nor a internet thing. It is just a social behavior thing.
And I actually hope, that more people are willing to express their opinion. And on the same time I would like to see more people to know that they are not flawless. So they are most critical towards their own certainty. This leads to rational discussions.
Many minorities are never heared, because they feel without value. I say everyone has got inherent value. And everyone is needed to make our society complete.
This is a client issue. Dark wisp renders it perfectly.
Completly agree. Every person holds the burden to filter Signal from noise. Since somebodies noise is an other persons signal.
In the end only the valuable information will be around long term. So focusing on valuable takes is all that is needed. Maby they are only found in 5 years from now. Maby those who see more clearly are not yet here.
Too many are focused on how they get appreciation without being able to appreciate.
Real appreciation needs time and spontaneaty.
Oh it's absolutely a client issue. I just thought it was funny considering context.
Waitaminute... You're an author? You write a coloring book?
I was an author, in a previous life.
But now I'm a "ferry advisor" to the stars 💪
Ah yes, the stars of nostr and all the ferry travel we all do.
If you need to travel to the Isle of Wight by Ferry, then
AMA 😂
One day... But we may have to make the trip by boat. The spouse is a rather large man and likely wouldn't fit on planes comfortably.
Then, I'm the guy to ask.
I would suggest the 12pm Wightlink Ferry from Portsmouth if you want to combine travel with a light lunch.
Or the 12:15 Red Funnel ferry from Southampton, if you'd like a hot meal. I recommend the Pastie, Chips and Beans paired with a glass of house Rosé from the onboard bar 🫡
I hope this valuable information gets stored on your new web archive project. Future generations will want to know!
Ah now I see you 😂
Very true
