I got them to put the results of my call in writing for anyone else who wants to zap on apple image

Natural response would be… more than happy to, when Apple provides ability to do in-app purchases via native Apple Pay integration of lightning network?

Someone on a previous post proposed a plugin system so a third party could add the functionality into the app afterwards. Would this be a feasible way around the limit?

Damn, guess someone else already tried.
Idea: When a user clicks a Profile from a post/note. Include a tag in code with the postid (not visible, just code side) so if the lightning button is tapped in the profile page, it can be associated with the post. ?
Apple is on the wrong side of history. Will, your doing amazing work 💜🧡. They will never take a 30% cut of my bitcoin/30% fee on my speech. They’re trying to maintain a moat around Apple Pay, more recently their Goldman sachs savings partnership. Wish I knew how to code. I previously converted multiple family members to switch to apple. I will now focus my attention and money solely on open source, privacy, freedom tech, and away from the opposite of this, including ad-based business models. Will encourage others to do the same. Looking forward to continuing to use Damus, zap profiles, and will obviously opt for editions, such as your hinted “freedom edition”, that allow zaps without restrictions, whether it be a PWA, desktop, or competing OS. I’m well aware nostr is a protocol and they’re other options and will dabble, but I’ve really liked Damus as my first and only nostr client thus far. Maybe one day Apple will wise up, but probably not until it hits their bottom line.
Completely fulfills their criteria, but still allows zap association with post. Downside is it creates one extra UX step: post - profile - lightning button
So I can tip a content creator, obviously for his production, but only from the profile because tipping him in the context that actually caught my attention is prohibited. Apple, the king of UX... This is madness. View quoted note →
Question for apple. Came across an app called Status. Allows users to make post and send eth payments. How is that allowed and Zaps aren’t? image

So if you tip to the profile with a link to the post saying “This is what I’m zapping you for” then you are in violation of apples terms. Apple has officially stated they are supporting censorship. I don’t get to tell you how you brought me joy.
Hey #[1], first off thanks… seriously. This ain’t easy, and you are fighting a good fight. The nostr protocol isn’t the #[2] protocol… a (skewered) version of reading this response seems like Apple is regulating a protocol that it assumes Damus is orchestrating versus implementing. Like I said, skewered reading… …this feels like,e a reversion to the old is the easiest solution to stay on iOS. And while I know it’s not the solution you want… it’s a skewered one (to take my prev use of the word). You (and your team, and most folks supporting) have illustrated why iOS is preferred by many. Polish of the interface makes folks want to pay for more of it … you just so happened to make nostr viable by paying attention to the customer experience many devs/apps don’t or can’t. I hope the other nostr apps are polishing their wares. Folks won’t move to them for long from Damus because of the experience you keep polishing. You are proving why Apple’s UI focus matters. And in this case, it’s proving how other platforms can/should provoke Apple to think differently than how they do regarding control and use.
Hmm, the app allows to send likes that are associated with digital content. Does that mean likes should be using in-app purchases or functionality removed? 🤷‍♂️
Horrible, no wonder eu wants to force them to allow downloads from third parties. Apply is horrible
What about "someone" building a third party app/Webservice that converts certain actions (alternative emojis for likes) to zaps. It wouldn't happen in Damus at all and it's not Damus doing if this happened. It's a protocol after all and people can use their key in many ways and in other apps/services too.

You can’t allow people to side load the app ? What’s stopping people from doing that? I have so many apps on my phone that’s not on the Apple Store. On my phone
Okay, here’s an idea, make the like button and zap button the same button. Then make the onlyzaps option in settings change the function of likes to zaps. Now get apple to say that you can’t have likes on posts. Break the internet.

The revolution will not be televised. Nor will it be on the Apple/Google app stores. That is all.
Can you remove the zap button from the note itself? If someone wants to zap you, can they go to your page and zap that person? It is not tied to a note, that way they cannot interpret it as digital content sale.
What if the zap button is located above the post, up near the user’s name, so it’s more closely associated with the user profile? A ridiculous problem deserves a ridiculous answer.

Just put the if condition on the source code for when Apple is validating the new app version. This way they won’t see the zap buttons.

Nah, so many companies do that. Apple just sucks.
You are all trying to find logical arguments but this is useless. #Apple does not want #Damus on the app store. End if story. Be prepared to get the same app or at least a similar styled app from apple soon. 🤷‍♂️

Why don't you add a button next to handle with a unique note id. Whenever someone zap that keep that zap count againt that id and display it next to handle. This means different notes will have diff6xap count. For apple it would be zapping profile but you can still differentiate and dispaly.

Like just display things differently
This is one of the reasons I ditched my iOS crap. I always felt iOS applications were crippled when compared to the same Android versions.

Apple always find a way to show an L Bear with it, they will probably sell the W later
I don’t know how the zap code works, but could you do something like have a setting in which a user could run custom code in their client to do something with an OOTB non functional zap button on each post? If the user happens to write custom code that enables zaps… so be it, not Damus’ fault.

Regarding the necessity for in-App purchases being performed by Apple directly. Imagine there would be a PayPal button on each post which redirects you to a PayPal transaction with the person from the profile. Would this comply with their guidelines?
