The protocol is exploding and most kind:1 enjoyers don't even realize it. Two of the most discussed applications in the world right now are both Nostr apps. Bitchat was ordered removed from GitHub after 85% of its downloads last week came from India. The government wanted it banned following its use in protests inside the country. Buzz has been the #1 trending app on GitHub for three straight days with no signs of slowing down. It's a Slack alternative where humans and agents work together. It's a fresh take on collaborative agentic workflows. You won't see new kind:1 messages from these users. But that doesn't mean the protocol isn't exploding right now. It is. So keep building. These users, especially the Buzz users, will eventually look around and see what else they can do inside this new ecosystem.

to be fair the reason for those is just because jack is behind, or seen as being behind, both apps... we have yet to see a non-jack nostr app exploding organically

I’m pretty new to Nostr and its ecosystem, but within my close circle of friends, I’m the only one who believes in the importance of decentralization and in open, free protocols and networks. In Canada, our liberties are threatened by newly introduced bills. It’s only a matter of time before Nostr is noticed by non-technical people. Keep building.

So doing it right is that more important. Sane defaults for protecting privacy and anonymity. Else we replicate the surveillance drama that is the common internet.

It's great for pubkeys as identity, that is a win to celebrate. But that's pubkeys as idenity. To say it's part of the nostr universe, you have to have a pretty homeopathic definition of what nostr is. Which of cousre you can have such a definition, many people do. But if you're being honest you'll admin that buzz would work more or less the same in terms of functionality and cross-app compatibility if you swap out secp256 for some other scheme. That's the real test.
