Now running #GrapheneOS on a Pixel7 😎
Install was easy and pain free but It took me a few days to get it set up how I need and there's still some works in progress. It's a learning curve compared to the previously quick and painless android phone swapping apps 😅 and the stock apps are ugly 😂 but as a blank slate it's great, I've got it all looking nice now.
Restoring WhatsApp backup was a complete failure no matter what recommendations I tried from the forum so I've just gone with a clean slate for now. (I would ignore WhatsApp all together if I could)
The open source app LocalSend has been a godsend for making the switch and transferring files from the old device.
#asknostr : Will I have to do all this setup again if I switch to a new device in a few years or is it easier when swapping from GOS to GOS? Is there some config file I can transfer or similar?

I just went through this and it was not painless. I expected a "backup" to transfer more than just the installed apps. None of the App data was transferred, so I needed to resetup each app and all login and account info. The app install transfer alone saved me at least a day.
Oh, I didn't realise that was possible 🤣 I went and downloaded all my apps one by one, what a dumbass... Took me fucking aaaages! 🤣 Well, the up side to this is that wherever possible I replaced proprietary apps with FOSS alternatives. Still haven't found a good Calendar replacement though, looks like I might have to go back to google calendar as proton calendar doesn't broadcast back to my wife's calendar 😖
Try Fossify Calendar of Etas.
I've been rocking GOS for 2 years now = totally worth the effort. Welcome to the darkside.
I use davx5 (F-droid) and nextcloud (self hosted) for calendar and contacts. Nextcloud can be run on a raspberry pi or similar. Some rpi distros have nextcloud as a one-click install (like nostr:nprofile1qqsw5t3us9xs3gmclzjm37hvk2yy6pv9t96utjjttsj794hexc5x79qpy9mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumr90p5kuem5dahxy6t5vdhkjm3wdaexwtcahy3z8.) I dont want google harvesting that data. You can share calendars with other users on your nextcloud through the web interface.
Thanks for sharing. I enjoy seeing what others like and dislike about GrapheneOS (or any 3rd party Android ROM).
I intentionally set up my phone fresh every time I transition from one phone to the next. It feels good to have a nice clean start. I keep my files, contacts, and calendars in a private Nextcloud server, so there isn't much data shuffling for me.
Pretty much all the apps I use are in the stock F-Droid repos, but there are a handful of exceptions. It takes me probably about an hour to go from one phone to the next. I'm willing to do that much work every five years to start with a clean slate.
Oh snaps, I need to follow this Brunswick character. We're like the same person. 😆
Woah, another Fossify Calendar user on#nostr? I am finding my people! Followed.
Yes, Fossify apps are good
: )
You can download DAVx5 and Fossify Calendar also from the nostr:nprofile1qqs83nn04fezvsu89p8xg7axjwye2u67errat3dx2um725fs7qnrqlgzqtdq0

Yea switching from an iPhone to a pixel with graphene definitely took some getting used to. The aurora store helped with some of the apps that f-droid didn't have.
No logging in anywhere has been refreshing!
When it comes to calculators, I'm a Reverse-polish maxi. Unfortunately there is only one good app for me, RealCalc. I actually paid for the full version.
I couldn't get anonymous aurora to work at all 🤷🏻♂️
Sometimes the sessions fail to connect for some reason. Maybe retry?
