Guy Swann has provided an audio version of my long-form article about Nostr. It reminded me that he was another example of someone I paid for non-tipping things using Nostr as the payment discovery mechanism. Guy performed the audio editing for the individual files of my "Broken Money" youtube video. And I paid him for it not by having to ask for his invoice or anything, but rather just by looking him up on Nostr and paying him. Venmo-like payment discovery in an open-source and globally-interoperable way is a big deal in the long run.

Lyn, thanks for sharing, appreciated🙏
Using Nostr for payments and finding people to work with in such a smooth way is really impressive. It’s great to see how open-source tools can simplify and improve transactions. Looking forward to more innovations like this!
I never saw @Lyn Alden's post about this episode in my main nostr client feed because I didn't happen to open Primal or Damus in the timeframe that she shared it. What's cool about the new Fountain Nostr integration is we only surface posts related to audio - so I saw it and was able to queue up the episode - and also send Lyn a zap in the process! ⚡️ View quoted note → image
This highlights a few of the bigger hurdles that have stymied use to an extent but also is great stuff bc we continue to see much progress and innovation. 1. Invoicing is super clunky for people just looking to pay, before you have to deal with setup, time constraints, failures, etc. - big win - have a need, hit pay. 2. Point one feeds into probably the BIGGEST win in general. “Venmo-like payment” - this is the major win. Like it or not TradFi still has the upper hand on point two (unless you are not in a developed nation w/ payment rails). Point two mixed with point one creates a massive hurdle for adoption by the masses and that is before you get to explaining what a pub/private key is, which goes where, why you need them, what happens if you expose or lose them. Then you have to get into what open-source means and why it’s important which tends to put you in the tinfoil hat land. Yes, I get it, it’s early tech, clunky and unfriendly. However, with this ability it works almost to the point a “normie” can do it. Sure there’s probably some custody involved but that’s the reality at some point. This is a great step if we are close to having payments that can compete with the seemless nature of Venmo, Zelle, ACH, etc.

don‘t you worry about fake accounts?
Some wallets are allowing Nostr connection so your follows are integrated into the wallet. I've sent people sats without actually using a Nostr client. It's pretty cool.

💯 The identity layer that #nostr is adding to the stack allows payment discovery, a much needed feature that was missing in #bitcoin wallets.

Replying on @Fountain! I completely agree Lyn, people have no idea how much this is going to change the world. EVERY website and social media integrated with #Nostr. See something you like? Zap it, share it, comment on it. Automatically see the replies to comments from who you follow above everyone else, feel like you actually have an online community of friends that is all over the Internet with you. Be able to send value in exchange for value in any amount with virtually no transaction fees over Lightning. I couldn't be more excited for the future! Nostr. LOL. Looks like @Fountain has a bug where everytime I add a hashtag (maybe just when replying to comments?) it will extend the entire message and make it all glitchy. We're very early in the development of this ecosystem and I love to see it!
