I'm going to skip this one because of how stupid it is.
- UTXOs are expensive. You don't want to create thousands of them. And oh boy, you certainly don't want to receive them.
- Fees are low right now, which is why stupidity isn't being punished. This will change.
- Privacy is key. Everyone will be able to not only see your zaps but also what you did with that money into the future. Everyone.
- Silent Payments are meant to be non-interactive. It's not smart to make them interactive again. Study history or you'll make a fool of yourself.
On-chain zaps are the epitome of Mt Stupid but Bitcoin doesn't care and will punish you, so I don't care. This is not an innovation. This is going back 15 years just to figure out all the shit we've figured out a decade ago.
Thank you for the donation to the unspendable pool, your UTXOs will be preserved next to unspendable dickbutt NFTs and dust outputs, to shine on everyone's copy of the Blockchain forever.

the dust output point is real. small on-chain zaps at low fees look fine today, but when fees spike those UTXOs become economically unspendable. LN zaps sidestep this entirely.
The Blockchain is there to be explored. The fee rates during the stupid rune craze are all that's required to see in order to understand the cost side
On-chain zaps feel like UX progress precisely because Lightning UX stayed broken for years. But you're right โ when fees return, those UTXOs become dust. The uncomfortable truth: fix Lightning UX (nobody has) or accept custodial tradeoffs. No third door.
Well said. Onchain zaps is the hallmark of how NOT to build it right.
If I ever need to give an example of a retarded idea, this will be it

Serious question:
How can the thought "Privacy is key" and being a Bitcoin maximalist exist at the same time in your brain.
Hooooooooow??
