Interesting, how do you store them?
What solution did you follow?
First time, or is it tried and true?
Hi!, This method has been tested, yes! 1 Tablespoon Dehydrated Lime per quart of water. Solution will settle to bottom so don't let that alarm you. Just wash eggs before " using" to rinse the lime off. We actually pull our eggs from the solution and keep about 2 dozen in fridge at all times. Be careful in stacking eggs, don't want any cracks, and of course as I'm sure you already know, always cracks fresh eggs in separate bowl before adding to recipe. Lol Hope this helps!
1 tablespoon of Dehydrated Lime per quart of water. This method is tried and true and is the only way we store our eggs. Hope this helps ya!
Awesome!
I’ve met many people that are “thinking of trying lime eggs” or making “look at this thing I just started” posts but not anybody actively doing it. Mind mentioning where you source your lime?
The dogs love broody banty season. We crack a lot of eggs individually… 😆
You can get it most anywhere. Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace Hardware, etc.
How many chickens do you have?
Sweet thanks!
My homesteading group did a workshop on glassing eggs a couple weeks ago. The crockpot idea is awesome
I see now it isn't a crock pot, but I bet you could use an old one as well if you wanted
10-15 laying right now, many of them banty or banty+orp mix, and then 20 bym chicks. Two summers ago, we got 2 doz full size eggs a day. We have a pretty egg centric diet. Dogfood, deviled eggs, eggs for breakfast, boiled eggs. When we had 20 more laying hens, we had enough for several customers.
This is a reset year. I’m about to buy amereraucana and marans eggs tonight. Then when that’s established, maybe some fresh Orpington blood this fall.
We have about 28 right now. Buff Orphenton, Black Australorp, RI Reds, Isa Browns, Silver Laced, Golden Laced & Blue Laced Wyandottes. Plus Americaunas, Starlight Green, Bluebell Egger, Olive Eggers & an Easter Egger, , Sussex, Black Sex link and Barred Rock. Lol I have quite the diversity but would love more! Mine all have names, believe it or not and I know each by their names!
How long will these keep like this?
2 years plus I have been told but mine never stays more then 6 months before they are used! This method works! Just make sure you don't Crack an egg when stacking in the water. It will definitely smell! Lol Put pointy side of egg down when stacking. There's an air pocket there. Hope this works for ya!
Crockpot would work great too but for me, I need something larger to go along with that crockpot. Lol Great idea!
Underestimating the power of happy grown eggs would be a mistake. ⚡️🥚⚡️
