So this guy acts like people are saying 'take your cash and buy an ETF'. Or in his juvenile vernacular; you are going to blackrock and HANDING OVER your girlfriend to them. I've heard NOBODY say anything like that.
What holding bitcoin in an ETF is actually like; is living your entire life in a system where you CAN'T retain value unless you 'invest' in despicable corporations like apple and microsoft and amazon, and so you do, because you have NO OTHER OPTION. It's that, or ALL the money you earn loses 3-10% of it's value EVERY YEAR.
And then, after DECADES of feeling like SHIT over being forced to participate in a system of control and theft along comes something you can feel good about holding, something that retains value or far better and that doesn't exploit others to do it... But that money has to remain 'institutionalized', so you move your IRA to invest in the ETF.
So what this guy is suggesting is that it is 'superior' to cash out your 401k or IRA, paying 10% of your wealth in PENALTIES in addition to the 25%+ in taxes you'll have to pay no matter when you cash out, then buy bitcoin.
So, is HOLDING bitcoin better than investing in an bitcoin ETF? Absolutely, and again, I've heard NO ONE suggest otherwise.
Is Leaving money invested in apple slave labor better than investing in a bitcoin ETF? I say absolutely not.
What the kids have to remember is there was a world before bitcoin, and a LOT of people have a LOT of money trapped in that world. And that they aren't superior simply because they never had to make the decisions described above. Those kids who 'lucked out' to be born into a world with bitcoin and had the foresight to get some, also need to remember; you can 'stay HUMBLE and stack sats', or be smug, ignorant pricks.
If your goal is to make anyone feel BAD about doing the best they can in their situation, I think you're on the prick side of the equation.
