Fundamentally posting to a website blog or to bluesky or nostr or twitter is the same kind of thing: End users create content and share it with the world. The reason social media seems to think it needs "blocking" is because a new generation of young authoritarians want to control other people, whereas when websites were invented, people were not so authoritarian. At least that is what I believe in a nutshell.

I used to believe this too, but fediverse has also the goal or building communities, which is different than nostr focus on individual freedom (people become atomized individuals) In a community some people won't mind having some of them having roles (specialization of role), and a role is the of a moderator. Of course it would be better to allow a fine grain control and a member of the community would be able of reading content from instances the Moderator didn't allow (this means accepting Moderation is sometimes optional)
I don't think it's just about young authoritarians. On the web, the major way to get new content is to search for it or click through to it, which means you are unlikely to see unwanted stuff. With social media, centralized or not, anyone can push content upon you. That's the point of social media. But the result is unwanted content on your screen.
There is no system - existent or future - that can prevent all people (with varying tastes and comfort levels) from ever seeing anything that is "unwanted" by each of them. Except for eyelids. But then you still have sound to worry about. If you think about this for even 1 minute it's a very obvious property of reality. Not just social media.
Of course they do. My point was about the scope of what blocking means. They want to not see stuff - fine. But that can't include blocking other people from seeing their stuff. Twitter blocks were a lie- just log out and you see it all again. We can't impl blocks either (and neither can bluesky). Solutions include muting, private spaces, subscribing to censors to get those mutes before you see stuff, etc.
