I'm honestly surprised to see you referring to it as a hardware wallet not a signer, though I won't say I haven't picked up bad habits listening to people misuse language myself... Also, buying metal seedplate always struck me as a little bit hazardous, at least if it's kyc'd. M8 washers are cheap enough to buy at your local hardware store, and hold together with a bolt and nut.
Yes. Try Bitcoin-Safe.org with your hardware signer

A Bitcoin seed phrase turns code into something real. 📝 You write it down → it’s physical. 📱 Lose your phone? You’re fine. 🔐 Use multisig? Even better — no single point of failure. A 12- or 24-word seed phrase is more than just a recovery code — It’s 🗝️ your private key to freedom, and you can hold it in your hand ✋ image #Bitcoin #SeedPhrase #Multisig #SelfCustody

I like that, #LearnToSeed
This but you depend, differently on people collectively understanding it and doing the same Not that i am worried it is happening and it is beautiful to see A most peaceful revolution
No, just use a passphrase. Trying to digitize a backup is asking for trouble. Just use a passphrase, if someone finds your seed, they can't do anything with it unless you compromise your passphrase at the same time. Multi-sig is honestly overkill for almost all individuals imo. Only if you want multiple entities holding keys.
Using a passphrase is effectively a two of two multi-sig. Consider collaborative custody with a company like Unchained Capital where you only hold two Keys and Unchained holds the third. Keep your two keys in different location and save the multi-sig config file in your encrypted password manager.
100% agree. I’ve always wondered why so many people recommend a multi-sig set up when a seedphrase + passphrase is perfectly sufficient and incredibly safe for an individual. Multi-sig set ups are great for a company or institution, however.
I feel like people are always trying to run before they can walk. Start with a watch only wallet set up using reputable hardware (seed signer, or coldcard). Next, because they'll always ask how to spend, a hot wallet with the understanding that it is vulnerable to spyware and zero day hacks. Finally, a demonstration on how to spend from the watch only wallet safely. Now the student has a convenience wallet to feel like they can practice using bitcoin, and a secure wallet for saving with the understanding that this is a secure vault by comparison. Its not as simple as writing down 12 words, but it isn't as complicated as multisig either.
*A passphrase not contained in any rainbow tables. Long enough, but that you can remember. Consider that if someone finds a seed plate, they immediately know its importance and are incentivized to break it. An encrypted backup could contain your son’s photos.

Unfortunately, some people don’t want to be fully sovereign. It’s easier to not have to think about storing and managing your money yourself. Big part to why banks exist. For convenience
