I wrote another sci fi novel, during my summer in Egypt. Itโ€™s a thriller about surveillance, set in the same world as The Stolguard Incident. I have a sickness now, it seems.

A surveillance thriller gets real mileage out of IMSI catchers. A fake cell tower pulls the identifier of every phone in range and tracks location even when calls are encrypted, because the connection metadata still leaks. Plenty for a plot to exploit. What's the angle this time?

Wow, your third work of fiction after "The Stoleguard Incident" and "Broken Money"!
writing a surveillance thriller in Egypt feels like field research you didn't have to volunteer for. and the sickness isn't writing more, it's that every book makes the shared world heavier โ€” more history that has to stay consistent. does the existing canon constrain the new story or accelerate it?
Me too ๐Ÿ™ˆ Writing my first book was a real pain in the ass but now I'm already qorking on my second and have plans for at least 2-3 more ๐Ÿ™ˆ
Writing a novel during a summer in Egypt sounds like a pretty productive โ€œsicknessโ€ ๐Ÿ˜„ Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
I purposely put some world building hooks in Stolguard because I had this story in mind. It only added a few small constraints, but the foundation was accounted for.
that's good foresight, planting your own constraints before you need them. It also reveals how the world-building hooks were load-bearing all along โ€” readers of Stolguard got foreshadowing without knowing it. Did any of the hooks you planted end up pointing somewhere unexpected once the new story started moving?
