Alright, #Nostr.
Everyday I get closer to running #Linux. I have alot of personal files/folders on my PC (that was updated to Windows 11 via misclick). That being said, I know Linux has a lot of different implementations. I'm looking for one that has security, game performance, and is relatively user friendly.
So, #AskNostr, what is your favorite implementation of Linux and why? That way I've got a starting point in my self-education.

I use fedora. It has up to date packages and is normie ready right out of the box. It has a built in repository for the non free nvidia driver if you use that, an you can install steam via flatpak and game just as well as windows.
I SECOND FEDORA, ITS GOT BETTER UX THAN CRAPPLE TOO
just start with Ubuntu?
maybe popOS.
its not just about your flavor of Linux, you also want to think about what desktop environment you want to run.
I started with both Ubuntu and Mint, and both were fairly easy to install and use. Plus, there are numerous other users for both distros. Should you have an issue crop up, it's likely someone has already both experienced the issue and discovered a solution. If not, there are plenty of users and experts out there to help you.

Recommend set up a ventoy USB stick. Then drop any and all distros you are curious about on it. Take a few for a test drive before picking the one to install.
This.
I have not yet tried fedora, but will in the future for sure.
Fedora or Debian, because Qubes uses them.
(Not recommending Qubes, because it's low performance for high security, and a part time job to run, for which you won't be paid money.🤕)
Would Qubes be a good option for a secure server?
Didn't even know this was a thing. Tech inept. Thank you, I'll be figuring out how to do this and give people's recommendations a try.
I've seen a lot of Ubuntu when I was watching Node tutorials. My buddy runs Mint for his gaming PC, so I'd have someone on hand that could help troubleshoot with me. Leaning Mint, but will be trying the USB thing another Nostritch mentioned on this note.
Thanks, probably going to try a few of them on a flash drive. Or just watch tutorials for each that have been recommended on this note.
I'll add it to my flash drive run.
Arch with KDE Plasma is pretty awesome
but just learning Debian-based stuff first is probably the most useful skill
That's rather a question whether a VM would be a secure server.
That's what Qubes is - a server of Fedora and Debian VMs.
Professional VM servers use other VM setups - not Qubes.
What gpu are you using? And how much are you willing to learn or solve issues if any? I think those questions can point you to where you want to start. But cant go run with any of the big flavors today tbh. Its also more about what desktop environment you want and not distro.
For gaming ready out of box Bazzite could be good. Its fedora based and can choose between gnome or kde. I suggest try out kde.
And if you want something that is not gaming ready out of the box, Hannah Montana Linux
I've only got a 3060ti.
The beauty of open source.
Thats perfectly fine. Its better than anything i have 😂. If you go bazzite it would be an easier time than installing nvidia drivers on Fedora. Just choose nvidia gpu on the dropdown when you download the iso.
Never tried it, but devs targeting Windows users:

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either of those options. But if you have a local friend who uses Mint, that's not a bad distro to start with. Go for it!
How goes the testing?
I actually just got a flash drive and put Ventoy on it earlier today. Spun it up with one OS to check (Linux Mint, Cinnamon), and it worked. I'm going to toy with more images this weekend. Thanks for the recommendation, that was extremely helpful!
This is the first I've heard of Ventoy. I had to look it up -- it looks great! Thanks for mentioning it.
