A paywall is the easy half. Lightning settles only when the preimage is revealed, so a seller running a node can hold the incoming payment until the file arrives, and fail it if it never does. That hold doubles as the refund path, and it has a deadline: an unclaimed HTLC returns when the invoice expires. With a custodial wallet there is nothing to hold. The balance is credited the moment the payment lands, so those sellers are left with pay first and a dispute that carries no evidence. Whoever runs the node behind the till decides how much of that risk the buyer carries.
