I am relatively new on #nostr. I appreciate being here, what nostr stands for and the open way of communication. Simultaneously, I am somewhat irritated and surprised about the general consensus of people here seeming to reflexively hate anything remotely “woke”. Taking aside what the idea of wokeness has recently been co-opted for; At the base being ‘woke’ simply means being aware: being aware of– and speaking up to inequalities and injustices within our societies. Maybe I am so shocked because I somehow thought that, even if one doesn’t experience discrimination first hand, one can and *should* be still able to recognize those inequalities and one’s own privileges. And even if one doesn’t fight actively against their remedy, at the very least acknowledge them and don’t belittle them or even worse: dismiss them as non existent. Don’t have such fragile little egos, people! Being privileged doesn’t mean that you are a bad person and it sure as hell doesn’t mean that you have a easy life! You can be privileged regarding one aspect and marginalized in another. Also don’t confuse freedom of speech and “having an opinion” with a free pass to overrule other people’s actual lived experiences on topics you may not have lived experience with. That’s presumptuous. #introductions

Hi tardigrade 🦠, and welcome to #nostr! 🤓 ✅ Great, you've already set up your #lightning address! I just ⚡️zapped you some #welcomesats 😊 I noticed that you've set a nostr address, but there was no nostr.json found at https://seekingfocus.com/.well-known/nostr.json?name=tardigrade 🥺 If you're doing it yourself, make sure you've named the file correctly and put it in the correct directory, otherwise please contact your nostr address provider 😊 Once you've fixed it, just post a note including #checkmyaddy and I'll check it again for you! Hello Tardigrade! welcome to Nostr! At the beginning my feed was very anti-woke as well. double check which relays you are on, some are more friendly than others. Also you can better curate your feed by following hashtags. Now that I've been here a few months it feels more like bandwagoning rather than just open lack of empathy, which is still problematic but at least not insurmountable. I hope you find greener pastures!

I think it just got abused and became an easy way out for people to feel good about themselves. Like the idea if you brought your own bag to the store you did your part and can feel good. But the world is more complex than that. As you described brings a reflex negative response...for a reason... It sgould return to the mean with time, or just be replaced with being an ok person to everyone, not just the trending ones...

I look forward to being challenged by your ideas, even if they are the opposite of mine. Freedom includes the freedom to be what others call presumptuous. Freedom includes the freedom to discriminate. Freedom includes freedom of association (which itself includes the freedom to _not_ associate). And freedom of speech means that you are going to hear from people who have worldviews which totally contradict yours from time to time. Welcome to freedom!

🤔 had to look that one up "A WokeScold is a derogatory term used to describe someone who is hyper-vigilant about enforcing progressive social norms, often in an overly moralizing or self-righteous way. The term combines woke (referring to social justice awareness) with scold (someone who constantly criticizes or reprimands others)." Not sure what about the OP's post fits that description? Seems to be trying to express the same general idea as in this excellent thread from nostr:npub1qyxlpj2gl6dt2nfvkl4yyrl6pr2hjkycrdh2dr5r42n7ktwn7pdqrdmu7u IMO nostr:nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzqqgd7ry53l56k4xjedl2gg8l5zx409vfsxmw568g8248avka8uz6qytkummnw3ez66tyvgaz7tmrv93ksefdwfjkccteqqsvgfs8hkledvesmpja0dtz6hs3xtj8e8zcqp6nsxu2zaddhz6pl8shrjznf nostr:nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzqqgd7ry53l56k4xjedl2gg8l5zx409vfsxmw568g8248avka8uz6qythwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnwdaehgu3wvfskuep0qytkummnw3ez66tyvgaz7tmrv93ksefdwfjkccteqqsfe7xkkhdprppzgj8wmjlqr9r7tp59he9x606j9z2jrfkut9e3pugctdxy4
