Do Christmas right. πŸŽ„ Real tree > fake tree. Incandescent lights > led lights. Modest but rich > over the top + cheap. A few gifts > mountain of consumerism. Christ-centered > Santa-centered. #ToChristAlone

Historically, the Church celebrated Advent, then Christmastide (Dec 25β€”Jan 5), then Epiphanytide. Most Evangelical Protestant churches in America have really lost sight of this history and ignore the historic Church calendar. Like so many other things, I think the modern Church really robs itself of a lot of joy by not observing Christmas as a whole season. Our church celebrates the Twelve days with various events throughout and we cap it off with a formal Twelfth Night ball on Jan 5. I should look into some solid reading material on it myself. What I have learned has been from scattered sources and from folks at our church. We will be going to our church service soon and I'll ask around for any good resources on the history of Christmastide and report back to you.

My church regards itself as [reformed] Catholic (not a separate church), and says that Protestant and Roman Catholicism are apostate churches, that the West is in deep, deep Sin and under God's judgement. I like my church.

The Reformation stripped back tradition and practices is saw at odds with Scripture, but Protestants have ran with it so far that what they are doing can no longer be called Christianity. Tradition must be conformed to Scripture and does not have the force of special revalation, and yes I believe it should be modest, but that doesnt mean there should be NO tradition, which would be absurd.
