Cannabis harvest is about to commence! These are the best expressions of the super lemon haze x pineapple pomegranate cross I've been working on. (any ideas for names welcome) This season all 9 remaining plants are back crossed with pollin from the original pineapple pomegranate genetics I started with from Massive Seed Co. out of Oregon. View quoted note → I like to harvest slowly over the month of October to make sure I get some buds early if mold gets bad and get plenty of perfectly ripe bud too if conditions are favorable. Looking forward to some tasty finger hash!! Last season was a bit of a let down with a small harvest and no viable seed but this year is looking to make up for it. Plus, I've got some new genetics in the mix with white widow and gold leaf thanks to connecting and trading seed at my local Bitcoin meetup. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #meshtadel #selfsovereignty #grownostr #weedstr #weedstr #rabbitcolony #marijuana #weed #valuediversity View quoted note →

I want these christmas trees. 🎄 image
Looking good @rev.hodl - I had to pull a few of mine early due to PM, but I got it all pulled in time without much damage. I decided to keep it easy this year and ran autoflowers. It worked out surprisingly well in super soil. I had good luck drying this year getting it down to 0.6 water activity, and I'd say it's some of the best smoke I've had in long time. Now the craze in my circle is "Andrew's Homegrown" :) I hope I get the chance to make it to one of your events!!
From where I'm standing, you couldn't do it any better. Organic soil, rabbit garden, natural light, full coverage of trichomes... it is artful cultivation. Did you do any compost teas this year?
Thanks for the props! It's a very hands off approach. I didn't do any teas. I only watered a handful of times to get them established after transplanting. I need to make some time to play around with foliar feeding not only for the cannabis but for all the fruit trees in the food forest too. I've got plenty of comfry and other goodies to play around with fermented plant juice, in addition to all sorts of compost. I'm still in the building stage of most of the systems here on the homestead, foliar feeds feel like the next step when everything is planted and established to maximize yeilds. I'll get there eventually.
Ive had really good luck with worm casting teas. Add a little bat guano and molasses, mix, then aerate it for 24 hrs. Apply it like you would water and you don't even need to pH it. I became an organic gardener out of laziness lol.
Exactly, working with nature makes things more simple in many ways. Integrated approaches allow for less than maximum yeilds because more than one yield is obtained simultaneously from each system.
I'm loving your integration of mining for heat... the same system applies everywhere.
One of the cannabis has succumbed to powdery mildew. I noticed some powdery mildew on the squash plants and I thought I better go check the cannabis. Sure enough, one plant had a pretty significant infection. I was able to salvage most of it and start drying it out. The seeds will certainly still be good. I do wonder if the reason this plant had mold problems was genetic. Maybe the seeds will also grow plants susceptible to mold. #permaculture #permies #homesteading #meshtadel #selfsovereignty #grownostr #cannabis #weedstr #observeandinteract #seedsaving View quoted note →
I agree, do you think it's likely that the PM jumped from the squash to the cannabis? It is planted in the food forest about 150ft away from the cannabis garden. I think the problem is more so with the specific plant. The others in the garden have no issues but this plant was covered. It might be the way it grows more bushy and with lots of overlapping fan leaves while the others are more spread out. Maybe this plant is also just susceptible to powdery mildew, something in the genetics?
Ya probably had a cut or something. Wind could move spores far, also animals could possibly move the spores that far (including humans)
Spores are almost everywhere. That cool stretch in August lowered the dew point and made the right environment for PM. It's very hard to control PM once it happens, and I don't like the idea of foliar sprays once the buds are 3-4 weeks into flowering. It's very likely that cross contamination happened from other more vulnerable plants in the garden, but the other half is that some varieties are more susceptible. I've seen different phenotypes from the same lot of seed where some are resistant and some susceptible. My thought is it's easier to let's some go to the compost pile than trying to manage it. You can't control the outdoors, so it's always going to happen to some degree.
White Widow branches broke in with the rain White widow crosses have been some of my favorite cannabis strains of all time. Thanks to the local bitcoin meetup, I was able to get my hands on a white widow seed. It grew vigorously and the buds got so heavy that some branches broke when saturated with the rain water. Interestingly, the rabbits only ate the fan leaves, effectively trimming the colas for me. This plant is looking to provide a massive yield of high quality bud. Even though I had to harvest a lot of it earlier that I wanted to, I'm still super excited to try it out and I look forward to what the pineapple pomegranate cross seeds bring. #permies #permaculture #homesteading #grownostr #meshtadel #selfsovereignty #weedstr #cannabis View quoted note →

One year ago I recorded a podcast with @Ungovernable Misfits talking permaculture and bitcoin in general. This clip is a good summary of my high level thoughts on Permaculture and Bitcoin and was basically the ideal I was working towards throughout the year. View quoted note → The podcast as a whole provides a good reference point for a lot of what has happened on the homestead over the last year. I'm not sure why I thought to detail so many of my plans for the year, maybe hold myself accountable. All in all, I was able to accomplish almost everything I mentioned throughout the podcast in the last year. Take a listen and check out this year in review mega note. February was defined by maple syrup production, the threads aren't as cohesive as I was still learning Nostr and developing my style. View quoted note → March the highlight was working on the 20ft tiny house, still haven't quite figured out Nostr. View quoted note → April was marked the completion of the Bitcoin mining dehydrator, one of highlights of the whole year for the homestead. View quoted note → May was the sweet spot of sunlight and waning colder temperatures which lead to lots of pleb mining at the homestead. The solar power was flowing and the dehydrator was constantly loaded. The cold frame was growing cannabis and the portable S9 space heater was saving lambs from hypothermia. View quoted note → June the sheep were grazing the pasture at it's finest and the yurt was booked solid with guests View quoted note → July the bitcoin mining clothes dryer was completed in the peak of the summer tourist season. A project I have been thinking about and working towards for over 6 months. View quoted note → August I made my second appearance on the Bitcoin Rapidfire podcast talking about mining on the homestead. View quoted note → September the food forest ripening and cannabis colas were forming. View quoted note → View quoted note → October the sheep were finishing out the season strong making for some of our best lamb we've grown. View quoted note → November we rounded out a great year with the horses after finally realizing our goal of using them for carriage tours. View quoted note → December I spent spreading the word of the intersection of Bitcoin and Permaculture on the @npub1cl42...gf39, @QW, and @Frog Talk 🐸 View quoted note → What a wild year, it's been all that more amazing to share it with everyone on Nostr. Permaculture, Bitcoin, and Nostr is facilitating a new permanent culture in which we are all building together! #permaculture #permies #homesteading #bitcoin #meshtadel #bitcoinmining #plebminer #foodforest #weedstr #cannabis #rotationalgrazing #yurt #grownostr
