For those that are new to Nostr, hello! What’s cool about it is that Nostr it is an open source protocol. It is not a centralized company, but rather is a protocol that individuals and companies can build upon. This means that you can use many different applications to access it, or even build your own. And it means that there is no central authority that can take down posts or delete accounts; there are different servers operated by different entities that are storing the data. And there is no central algorithm for determining what posts people see or don’t see. You can hook up a bitcoin lightning wallet to send and receive tips (“zaps”) on posts. Nostr itself is not a blockchain or crypto and has no token, but the Bitcoin blockchain does complement it well via zaps. Nostr is still relatively small, and a bit rough around the edges. But the community here is great, and familiarizing yourself with the technology and concept is useful in a world of centralized social media. It is a new method of decentralization that balances various trade-offs in a novel way, and the protocol can be used for a lot more than just social media. Welcome!

I've been using NOSTR for a few days and I'm impressed. The people and the knowledge shared by them are invaluable. Respect to all Nostronauts.
Hi back! New here. Appreciate your explanations as always. Saw you at atlantis but dint want to fan-girl at you! Maybe next time I'll be brave enough to ask for a high five 👋 Thx for all you do!

The appeal of NOSTR lies in its commitment to decentralization, anonymity, and privacy. Protocols such as Bitcoin, TOR, and Nostr represent a promising direction. Although I'm somewhat new to the social media landscape, I'm eagerly learning more here.

Try using #Amethyst as it has tor, run a vpn to hide your ip address from nostr relays and use @Minibits for better custodial privacy when zapping.
I don't want to misattribute because I don't think these posts can be deleted 😄 but in summary, Lynn has mentioned Nostr/Lightning many times in the countless interviews I've watched since 2021 bull run. I figured, after the last mention at Atlantis, it was time I finally figured out what this "nostr" and "lighting" thing was all about. So far, so good! 🤠

Hey Lyn. Good to hear your POV ref Nostr. As a new pleb myself I'm happy to focus most of my energy on nostr as I'm so deep in crypto and the right to have decentralisation in our monetary system. Glad to have people like yourself in this space and promoting the industry.
I think I managed to do it, need to try and do some transactions for the first time. Thank you for your reply, I would zap you but need to get sat first 😅

If you use a custodial wallet there are no fees (WOS, Blink) If you want to use a non-custodial wallet, some fees will incur (Phoenix).
On centralized social media, they harvest your time and attention, then sell your data to third parties — essentially, you are the product. On Nostr, you are a crew member aboard the Nebuchadnezzar. Welcome 🫡

we need a hashtag to use when something seems written by ai assist or a bot & the poster did not specify. like how champagne is just from champagne, france and the rest is called something else so we get people identifying when they use it. i am all for using it but think the public should know. #botpost or #aipost or #promptpost

Hey 👋 I'm new here. Came here after seeing Jack's tweet. How do people tag here? @ doesn't seem to work for me but I see other posts tagging other accounts.
Thanks for the explanation. As a blockchain noob: What I can’t wrap my head around: if servers/relays are non-central and people can see stuff in different relays: how am I able to explore / search things that happen on different relays where I am „not on“ and how is somebody able to share something from a relay that I am not on. also: who owns the different relays and how are they able to keep those relays up (how do they make money?) . Thx for anyone patient enough to explain 😊
Thanks for writing this Lyn. Will make sure I save and share as wide as possible with friends and family. This is the best explanation one could get when getting started. Thanks for everything you for Bitcoin and freedom. LFG ⚡️⚡️
