My fourth hobbit illustration. When Bilbo meets Smaug. The dragon’s name is derived from an old norse/icelandic word "smjúga" - present tense and "smaug" past tense. The word means to slither through a narrow opening. Tolkein borrowed a lot of words from Norse mythology and the sagas. #art #artstr image

Thanks! I wish I could use these with an edition of the book but I dont know how that would work with regards to copy right and all that 🤷‍♂️ I actually started doing these illustrations out of passion for the book, I have always loved that story and I wanted to show how I pictured the scenes in my head.
