Apple rolls out age verification for UK iPhone users in iOS 26.4 beta, complying with the Online Safety Act. Unverified? No app downloads or purchases. image

I wonder if people will just start using cheaper (Chinese?) phones or something that don’t care about compliance… We all know regulations don’t really work when people don’t want them. —Or maybe will just go ahead and comply and let the govt spy on them even more.

Project Sandcastle needs to be updated to the latest hardware. Or we need a Linux Mobile OS developed that can be installed to use the hardware and wipe the iOS completely away.

Some 14 year old with Claude gonna find a way? Maybe bricking their own app ecosystem is good in the long run. Pissing off all those 14-year olds is not.

yes, there are options for Linux-based cell phones, but the problem is that many launched them when many did not feel they were necessary when Android and iPhone were still very convenient to use, causing many projects to go bankrupt. currently, those who try to do something like this are holla phone, BraX3, another Spanish cell phone but I don't know if it still exists, Ubuntu touch, harmonyOS, cell phones that can be built with Rastberry and Up Phone, but I don't know if the latter is based on Android it can be compromised.

Because many parents gave up. If they hadn't they would have taken action against this before it could take effect.

because parents failed to do their job. rights and privileges come with responsibility. if you don't want to carry out your responsibilities then don't cry when you lose your freedom. freedom is always won by the people and must be guarded by the people. freedom has never come from any government.

I had not read up on how secure Apple had made their phones, locking the OS to the hardware. So it wouldn't work in the latest versions anyway.

It's a signal to no longer iPhone and no longer UK think different
Ha! They first want the data. Figuring out how to parent kids can come later, first data. 😈 What makes you think this is anything more thought out than data collection at this point? No one said there was a child friendly mode in iphones.
Disgusting. As well as being in Australia & having an iPhone, I have a “dumb phone” too. My husband and I are too old to move to another country. :( Yet we do both have new passports in case we do it anyway. :)
