Central banking extends to the Internet, in case none of you plebs realized this fact. The protocols may be open, but rug-pull some undersea cables or land-based central points of failure and your entire country goes dark. Will happen again. Bitcoin doesnβt fix that.
aka a little temporary disruption for the elites equals massive disruption for everyone else, which is exactly how They want it to be.
Mesh networks?
There has to be a decentralised solution.
a sneakernet focused nostr app would be cool
download recent signed notes to a usb drive on internet connect computer
plug it in to any offline computer to browse and interact without trust
then plug back in to an internet computer to broadcast
Sounds like a Coldcard for NOSTR. nostr:nprofile1qqsw3znfr6vdnxrujezjrhlkqqjlvpcqx79ys7gcph9mkjjsy7zsgygpz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqzyrhwden5te0fehhxarj9emkjmn9qyxhwumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv8qax5a ?

Any Iranian holding their own private keys is much better off than those completely dependent on banks even in this situation. It's true that their Bitcoin is temporarily inaccessible (along with everything else that depends on internet) but it's more likely to still be there when Internet is restored than money in a bank account, or stocks in a brokerage account. I suppose there's a case to be made for storing some physical currency or gold for emergencies.
How about a mesh network app that uses existing tech (bluetooth? Nfc? Wifi antenna?) to spin up an extended local network when the internet in your entire country is down... if one node in the network can get a signal (satellite?), then the entire local network can get some connectivity...
I'm on it

And looking for help π
You never cease to surprise!
You absolute rockstar.
nice do you plan to implement wifi aware? now also works android<==> ios
It's an option I have in mind. But now I would love to first test what is done and second connect it to Meshtastic
Samiz looks amazing.
How can I help?
I think I answered to you via DM but it didn't reach you out. Maybe?
From the tech side I'm looking for someone proficient with Meshtastic. I'm pretty sure I'm 2 steps away from being able to create a nationwide alt nostr network if samiz and meshtastic can be connected.
But I'm specially stuck in the testing side of Samiz, it's really hard to find someone with enough devices or enough people willing to meet in person to really test it out.
please look reticulum.network π
it can use LoRa, radio, Morse, TCP/IP, ToR
look what Juraj Bednar did
Came here to post samiz, I see your y on it already π
Cool, are you aware of any implementation to use nostr here? I'll investigate anyways, any hint will help, thanks
No from I aware of. nostr:npub1m2mvvpjugwdehtaskrcl7ksvdqnnhnjur9v6g9v266nss504q7mqvlr8p9 connect to a mint (Cashu) with reticulum.network
Maybe. I'm actually in a place with intermittent connectivity... so perfect Samiz usecase...
For testing I think that I can find a group very interested in this.
nice, I played with a demo using bluetooth broadcast to advertise IDs of events the user has and then connect and transmit
How about connecting a LN-address, which will enable plebs to zap you freedom money?

Samiz would fix that! Would you be willing to help test it?
A group of 10 betatesters I think would be enough.
I will happily fund this.
They could use Starlink.
I might be able to chip in. I'm not a rich guy, but this is important to me.
NFC mesh lol

Yes, but not yet, unfortunately.
Just saying there are some things no amount of money can buy. ;)

Is working on it!
https://github.com/KoalaSat/samiz
That would be amazing for Cuba. In such a difficult and chaotic environment, I believe it's the perfect stress test for the project. The extreme limitations make it a place where any solution that works here proves to be truly resilient.

Excellent news! Thank you Forte. Let's talk more in the next few days.

How many testers?
How many devices? What type?
How much time for each test?
What distance? Do they need to do an in person meetup?
I would love to help, but Kotlin is out of my competences. Sob.
**How many testers?**
I think it's worth to do incremental test sessions to not waste people's time.
I would go from groups of 3, to 5 and try to find a limit where the app gets crazy or terribly slow.
I didn't implemented any limitations on that sense on purpose for this mather.
**How many devices?**
The best way to test is 1 device per person.
**What types?**
Samiz work only on android devices. So far it has been tested in some new and old phones and I barely received bad feedback different from IU misfits caused by small screens.
Would be great to spot a table of incompatibilities I can work with. Samiz will probably be necessary in places where people won't have the newest phones in the market.
**How much time for each test?**
Good question. Taking into consideration what I said about not implementing limitations I would probably try to figure out if the app crashes for memory lack at some point. Other thab that people just need to use nostr as usual.
**What distance?**
Bluetooth is supposed to have a 100m range in open field. I would say maybe 50m is a more conservative maximum but who knows, also a good thing to test.
**Do they need to do a in person meet up?**
Definitively they need to meet in person at some point to test the mesh. But having notes created at home and see how they spread would be cool. Remember right now Samiz only synchronize notes created up to 1 hour previous the session has been started but they stay available as long you don't close the same session
Another hints:
1. Because the setup is kind of long I would recommend people to make sure their Samiz setup is ready while at home. The app has a view with a step by step tutorial but I'll be happy to support at any time.
2. If any problem appears an screenshot of the logs view will definitively help. It is supposed to catch and display errors too.
What about using reticulum?
OK. So let's design a test framework that looks something like:
Test 1:
-3 testers
-setup at home individual
-install test
-report bugs
-meetup for offline, then online test
-test distances offline
-Approx time: 2hrs
-Budget 100k sats (zapped to testers after completion)
Test 2:
-5 testers
-same as before, but more people, more scenarios
-Approx time: 2hrs
-Budget 200k sats (zapped to testers after completion)
Test 3:
-5 testers
...
...
-Approx time: 2hrs
-Budget 200k sats (zapped to testers after completion)
Test 4:
-10 testers
...
...
-Approx time: 2hrs
-Budget 400k sats (zapped to testers after completion)
...This is just a rough approximation. You know better what needs to be tested. Please correct me or add detail where necessary.
Sounds good!
The publication to the internet is still not implemented (yet you can recover it with Amethyst and broadcast it manually) so there is really nothing to test online.
