I find that I can scroll on the fedi for hours, no matter how stupid or uninteresting the content is, but I struggle to read a book for more than a few minutes without losing interest. So I just had a really dumb idea: have some program take the contents of a book and replace each post on the fedi in my timeline with paragraphs from the book! I could get my dopamine scroll while also learning things!

Even better idea: read a book for 10 minutes a day with your phone in another room.
Then increase it to 15, 20, 40, 2 hours, gradually.
Building back your attention will be a better investment than building tools to continue eroding it ๐ค
With all due respect, it might be time for a detox. And that doesn't mean simply switching sources of short form content ๐
I was recently excited when I realized that I've gotten back to thinking that hour long podcasts are too short and shallow ๐
Absolutely. If a podcast ends around the hour mark I'm usually disappointed. And if I'm not, then that's probably not a podcast I want to listen to.
I adopted a similar strategy recently and it works. No FOMO at all!
I read a book for an hour every day๐
