New Zealand indigenous Maori party member protested with a #Haka to a proposed Bill to change the definitions of a treaty passed in 1840.
This has many complexities and layers. Imperialism, colonialism, law, protest, indigenous rights, power, democracy etc...

The indigenous Maori are not to messed with when they go full tribal man. Like in so many countries the indigenous population have not had a good deal under colonialism.
Awesome! Who captured this?
Demonic
All our tribes once understood and possessed power. It is good to see those whose steadfastness has preserved their power and unity.
They are probably the only people in the world that managed to tame the colonialist push to turn their ways of life and behaviour into folklore! Respect!
Gives me chills. That’s a badass protest
They’re to be told to shut the fuck and sit down.
Parliament is civilized, and if they don’t shut the fuck up and sit down they will be conquered again.
Sure they will.
finally normal people 🤗
Community note:
The proposed bill (https://legislation.govt.nz/bill/government/2024/0094/latest/LMS1003433.html) does not change any defined terms of the Treaty (https://www.tepapa.govt.nz/discover-collections/read-watch-play/maori/treaty-waitangi/treaty-close/full-text-te-tiriti-o).
This protest was made at the vote to pass the bill from first reading to select committee where submissions would be heard on the bill from any interested party.
I'm curious about the frequency of them doing this? Do they do this often? Whenever they disagree with something?
Doesn’t make any sense, was that civilised when they were killed at the gunpoint? It’s just a matter of power if it can be done in past it can be done now.
Every government act is backed by the threat of violence.
The very existence of the state is intimidating because of its violent nature.
