how do you join a channel but get wider regional population? all my channels are empty
Just type any hashtag into the geohash line and hit teleport. If other people are chatting there you’ll see them.
does that interact with hashtag channels though?

There are no "hashtags", only valid geohash work with bitchat.
If you want channels with custom "hashtags" try coolr.chat no spam there on custom channels for the moment.

I don't think it works over the Nostr backend yet. I've only had it work over mesh.

Coolr.chat is neat though. Chats from there show up in Amethyst now, and are attached to your Nostr identity, so it can be used with wot. Should help with spam resistance.
