Surprise, surprise! It’s the same playbook over and over - grow, capture, extract. It will never stop unless people opt out of walled gardens.

Substack writers just saw their prices inflated 30% on iOS. Writers now have to wait 45 days to receive payment from Apple. Writers had absolutely no say in the decision, despite the very real consequences for their business. The feature cannot be disabled or toggled off.

So yes, if you build on top of someone else’s propery you will indeed have no say
But there are no subscriptions yet. There's talk about recurring payments and there might be wallets that support it in some way but I haven't seen such a feature yet. I want my Phoenix or whatever LN wallet to auto-pay a monthly allowance to certain things and it should be requestable. For example paid relays. When I submit my note to a paid relay when my subscription has a pending payment, the relay should be able to ping my wallet and my wallet should have a toggle to allow up to $X or Y BTC per time unit. The wallet would allow me to "end the subscription" trivially and benign actors could only charge if the subscription was used instead of strictly once per month but the scheme could be used for so many things. My wallet could have different auto-pay limits for zaps per day on client X, streaming per hour, auto-push per week to podcaster Y, ...

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but is there an option for me to do long form via Nostr? I’m preparing to go full agro with lengthy diatribes about China and the global Novus Ordo Seclorum shift and was thinking of SS but would way rather do so via Nostr
Dumb questions don't exist! Try @YakiHonne Or Or if you're a power user, using external tools to formated you (Markdown formatted) long-form content: and (which I'm maintaining) https://www.drupal.org/project/nostr_content_nip23 but that's a complex way which is far from polished and a out-of-the-box ready solution

Outstanding. I’ll have a look and see what might work best. That said, I’m an old man so when I see terminology like “external tools” my brain freezes. Will give a go though.

Meanwhile, nostr is such a great platform that you have to constantly remind people of how great it is.
