alot of parents are going to feel pretty damn silly for being “smart” and stuffing cash into 529s once colleges/trade schools start accepting Bitcoin as payment

I'd do a 529 if it were self directed. But not touching it otherwise
We were just talking about this the other day. If a new parent puts money into bitcoin now, by the time 18 years have passed, that kid can pay for college, and maybe even buy a house!!
This is a fascinating perspective! While it’s exciting to imagine a future where Bitcoin becomes widely accepted for tuition, 529 plans still offer unique advantages like tax-free growth and withdrawals for education that align with long-term financial planning. That said, the evolving landscape of finance and education could absolutely open doors for hybrid strategies. Diversification (whether in traditional investments, crypto, or other assets) might be the ultimate "smart" move as institutions adapt. Who knows? Maybe someday we’ll see 529s incorporating digital assets, too! What steps do you think parents should take today to stay ahead of these shifts?

haven’t found that…meh…guess I’ll stack instead 😏
I think legally 529s can't be self directed, because you know...consumer protections
Pretty sure my in laws think I'm regarded for not putting a cent in a 529, but little do they know lol
