Lyn has a great thread about people who diss lightning: View quoted note → Lyn also observes that lightning has "boosted sender privacy." Which is true, but did you know? Lightning also has better *receiver* privacy than monero. Even if you use a bolt11 invoice, the sender learns less information than he would if you gave him your monero address. Lightning is so cool!

LN *is cool but "rando on the internet cant tell me the source of funds" is more parlor trick than a test of network privacy. tell me how we can know our routing isnt predicable and high liquidity nodes aren't colluding then we're on our way to something resembling privacy.

> but "rando on the internet cant tell me the source of funds" is more parlor trick than a test of network privacy I agree > tell me how we can know our routing isnt predictable Because the predictor doesn't know where you are routing to > and high liquidity nodes aren't colluding Even if every routing node colluded, they still couldn't tell who the sender or recipient is
People don't even know. It's absurd. Shit coiners (aka CrYpToBrOs) claim to be knowledgeable about "crypto currencies" act light lightning isn't even a thing.
my understanding is that although we call it "tor routing" unlike Tor, its not a random route its optimized. therefore possibly (probabilistically) predicable. and although routing nodes don't know the sender and recipient, they know the origin and destination. which is pertinent.
also maybe you already know about this, but looks like a great (custodial) tool for LN education

These folks here have made a really nice interface for interacting with LN. and its super cheap. It IS custodial (they hold the keys and responsibility for uptime etc) but you can manage a LN node and have full control over the channels and everything. and they DONT try and sanitize the experience. theres a lot of information there while remaining a nice UI. A privacy conscious person could spin up a node when they need, open channels and move funds in ten minutes. *then delete the node* their profit model is selling uptime. so its *almost free to have a simple node, but a few thousand sats per month if you want it online 24/7. 🤔 View quoted note →

lol fair but I try to be pragmatic. their tool is a great way for non CLI people to spin up a node and learn about channel management. its well documented and obviously a good faith educational effort. so, about the best you can expect from a custodial solution.

No, the first routing node does not know the origin because he does not know he is the first routing node The last routing node does not know the destination because he does not know he is the last routing node
