my biggest issue with nostr protocol governance is backwards-incompatible changes and big clients unilaterally pushing for those. fragments the client ecosystem & annoys users and devs alike. some of us don't have the time and energy to keep up with every random NIP change that breaks userland. can't we just use NIP-10 for notes and NIP-22 for other kinds?

blame the people trying to break something that worked completely fine for 3+ years

Wasn't the first time wouldn't be the last one... The way the protocol its managed is pretty informal and childish
Your issues with Nostr are why you are on my shortlist of people that absolutely need to give me their opinion of MOR. Once I am done building and testing the experimental prototypes…
That’s not fragmentation, it’s churn. Real sovereignty means clients opt into NIPs, not get forced into them. If your governance relies on breaking userland to ship features, you don’t have a protocol, you have a hostile upgrade path.
We split this community so many ways so many times … with different kinds, communities, group chat. Every time we shipped some new kind and functions, what few people remained - fragmented even further into smaller and more isolated groups. We did it to ourselves and we keep doing it now πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
When apps ask for posts to assemble the Home thread, they cannot ask for only the new posts from your follows. They need to ask for all new posts and all replies. So, for many people, the app receives 100 replies before seeing the first post. All of them are discarded.

Thank you for explaining πŸ™
I will have to bring out some time and energy and use a client that shows me both options AND have a singer for my phone, I'm figuring this out.... what else am I supposed to do? as if those who decided doing the new thing will ever change it back now. guess this is the way how to deal with such an open protocols πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ but please be here with us, once in a while. I value you people much more than the tech and this is forever something astonishing and special. πŸ«‚ I'm looking for people that have an ear for my problems as a user and you are definitely one that cares. thank you for that.
the stuff gets pulled anyway when you open the thread, except now it wont be preloaded... most microblogging threads are shallow
Fun fact, all the other event kinds were designed correctly and I only download what the app needs. It's only kind 1 that has been idiotic since the begining. You should like this. Damus would be a LOT faster if it didn't have to verify and discard all these replies before anything interesting actually shows up.
