Nostriches, meet Umbrel Home — the ultimate home server that puts your data back in your hands. Run your own Nostr relay, Bitcoin node, cloud storage, media/VPN/home automation server, network-wide adblocker, and 100s of self-hosted apps — all in your home. Umbrel Home is a palm-sized powerhouse with a 2.9GHz quad-core Intel CPU, 2TB NVMe SSD, 16GB dual-channel RAM, and just 10 watts of power consumption (TDP). We built Umbrel Home from scratch, addressing all the Raspberry Pi-based home server limitations, and surpassing them in all aspects: up to 3x faster CPU, 6.5x faster SSD speeds, 2x more RAM, and an even smaller form-factor. No more corrupted microSD cards, and no manual assembly and setup. We’re happy to share that our first batch's production is complete, and we have limited stock ready. Worldwide shipping begins next month, June 2023! → Watch the reveal: → Pre-order:

@b0feb2b0: What specific device are you comparing the power consumption of the Raspberry Pi 4 to? It would be helpful to have more context to provide a more accurate comparison.
Might recommend it, but only if you remove the ordinals browser lol
It idles around 5W and bursts to about 15W. Strip our payment processor don’t support Bitcoin out of the box but we’re working on adding Bitcoin as a second payment method!

Can we expand the SSD setup?
Ah sadly we weren't able to set up Bitcoin payments with our current payment processor (Stripe) for the initial launch, but there will be a custom checkout experience for Bitcoin/LN payments down the line. We'll announce it as soon as it's available!
I've been yearning for this, searching for a smooth entry into the BTC realm, but truth be told, it ain't as effortless as those developers claim it to be, my friends! 😂 Perhaps my intellect just operates on a whole different level.
Underwhelming announcement IMO. To be fair, you can buy a Mini PC with better specs than this for cheaper.
1) this is just the bitcoin machine with better hardware 2) you could build this easily for half the price 3) 2TB was sufficient for a bitcoin-only product, but not for a home server 4) adding more storage/RAID is an essential feature of home servers and the fact that this is not possible with this product means it will be forever inferior to other home server solutions i could see this as a gateway home server for people who value convenience, but i think they will quickly run into problems with 1) complexity of software setup and 2) storage size if someone is too lazy to assemble their own hardware, they will probably struggle with getting the software to do what they want it to do. For example, if i want to self-host my photos library, I probably want to be able to see those photos while away from home, but you can’t access your home server cloud while away from home unless you have a Tailscale VPN set up. Or if i have all my movies on an external drive and i want to be able to watch them on any TV in the house, so then I upload them to nextcloud thinking that is the same as my external drive but in the cloud, but then nextcloud is not optimized for large files or video playback, then i look for apps that are optimized for this function and find there are different torrent-based apps for each type of media [video, music, etc] and they are all somehow inter-related and have weird, scary names(?). And finally when i figure things out and migrated all my photos, videos, and other files, i realize that i’m already hitting 1.9TB of storage and i can’t add any new photos or apps?? i guess the market will be the ultimate judge about whether this is something that people want/value, but these are the reasons why i think this product will end up being unsuccessful

possible but not recommended as external drives were not built to run continuously (higher risk of failing) as is required for servers
That's why I linked a 4tb crucial drive... With the tiny tink center it still comes in at half the price, plus you can sell the 512gb and recoup even more costs. 4tb home server should be pretty good. That's what I run for my whole family and it just gets a weekly backup on my main desktop 14tb drive.
Are you still going to support raspberry Pi, Umbrel with your software? Some of us are extremely happy with our current Umbrel set up on raspberry pi and do not want to change it.
Congratulations on a great product. The only negative I feel is the price is too high especially for folks who have been running lovely Umbrel on a Pi for a few years. Won’t a Mac Mini be an attractive alternative?

Umbrel OS running a small group of BTC node related apps has been almost unusable via the Umbrel UI on PI4-8GB recently. Slow interactions from unresponsive proxies, all whilst CPU and mem usage is low. Is the proposed solution from @Umbrel to spend 1099 USD plus post and import taxes ? Raspi support likely to get worse or better? I can see @RaspbiBlitz have a umbrel migration helper.... 🤔 View quoted note →
