First time trying #barefoot shoes. I have worn Altra Lone Peaks for two years, but I needed some winter boots. I bought these Xero Alpines for 40% off. I wore them today through wet grass and walked through puddles, and still arrived home toasty and dry. I will still spray with Carbon Pro to ensure waterproofing.
The grip on the sole wasn't great like Vibram so I would be wary of snow or ice, but for my needs of some wet concrete and mostly nature, they are perfect. I bought a half size larger (would recommend this regardless of added insole) and put in a more padded insole. So far, I don't notice a huge difference between this setup and my Lone Peaks. Very pleased with this purchase.

Great shout! I did a whole research to buy barefoot hiking boots for Madeira but ended up not buying any in the end because the grip was uncertain! Got barefoot trainers for over a year as I fell in the rabbit hole, but definitely in need of more sturdy/winter weather versions. Without the pressure of needing a good grip for steep hikes, I'll definitely be giving Xero a go now!
Yeah, Vibram is the only way to go if grip is a concern. Altra has two mid boots with Vibram, but one has max cushion ew and one isn't the Original foot shape (the widest toe box). It took me forever to find something I thought would work. These in this color are on sale at Xero EU right now!
🫡 😂 I was wearing my Xero sandals yesterday walking around the campground.
I really hope they do the trick!! Looks are least important I know, but they sure are cute. How's the width on them?
(mysterious music plays...)
Yeah I just sent it. No pain. You can "feel" a lot more of the ground or terrain your on, but I love my Xeros. Planning to order their new dress shoes soon.
Altra Lone Peak toe box is wider. But I still have enough room in the Xero boots. Finding cute boots with a wide toe box is probably why my search took so long...they are rare! 😆

Thank you for the side by side shots! They're wider than they looked alone...not that I'll ever be in need of winter boots but good to know 😂.
