Some may have noticed that I change my Nostr profile to my real name and face. When I first signed up, I didn't know what to call myself so I just copied my old username and profile picture from Twitter. But after meeting Bitcoiners in real life, I decided I want to enter this space as myself. I have a long-held fear of being seen and couldn't write from the heart without hiding behind an avatar. And to some degree, this made sense in a space where I am being censored and monitored. I also know that what's important to me are people and community. The downstream consequences of life moving more and more online are so evident in society today and it's making us disconnected and isolated. That is not what social media should be for. I want to connect on a human level, even in my online interactions. I thought I was just joining another social media platform. But instead I find myself being challenged to grow again. And I'm here for it πŸ¦‹

Same here. I STILL have my X account under an alias. Technically, I’m still under an alias here as well (Josephus is NOT my real name). But it is my real face and even my kids show up here from time to time. Nice to see you here kat. Also, I see you sing and fiddle on your profile. You got any links? Are you on Wavlake/zapstream/plebsapp?

Thanks! πŸ™Œ I barely have any recordings of myself, save for some short gig clips. Here's a little taste of what I do
I'm conflicted. I did the same more than a decade ago and sometimes deeply regret it. Just saying.
There is no real delete here and if you lose your private key it’s annoying so just keep things like that front of mind as ya spread those wings - refreshing!
Beautiful! Even though you're not censored here, what you write is public and permanent - no reason you can't be monitored. It's still worth keeping that in mind.
When I was a teenager we were told use nick names and don't give out real life info. 25 years later I'm still using Granite on the internet and basically anyone who knows me personally in both RL and digital domains would know I'm Granite. So while the nickname no longer keeps me anonymous, I do appreciate having a degree of separation from my personal life and professional life. I guess if my professional me needed a digital presence I would use my real name. But just like I don't give out my personal phone number to clients, I probably don't need them googling my personal presence online either.
I use my real name as well, but that also makes me much more cautious about what I write, since I can’t just delete it. You can try sending a delete request, but there’s no way to know if all relays will actually honor it.
