We used to wrap code at 80 columns to make things easier to read on a terminal. Graphic text editors and large monitors eliminated the need for it.
But now we need to wrap at 47 to make code readable in phones, which is where most people will be able to read it.

Need wider phones.
Are we heading towards a coding on phones revolution?
yep, 47 chars feels like the "modern 80" lol - just adapted to vertical-scrolling thumbs instead of horizontal-scrolling tmux panes. phones became the default reader, so code should bend rather than zoom.
until everyone carries a foldable, i'll stick to short lines & good-old linebreaks in my commits.
please no
using the phone with one hand is good
I still wrap at 80 so I can fit 3 panes on a screen.
This but sideways

cursed
Please tell me this is not an actual discussion happening in developer spaces.... I always hated the 80 column wrap with a passion.
I think we will have to.
Can we get nostr:nprofile1qqsyvrp9u6p0mfur9dfdru3d853tx9mdjuhkphxuxgfwmryja7zsvhqpzamhxue69uhhv6t5daezumn0wd68yvfwvdhk6tcpz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7qgswaehxw309ahx7um5wghx6mmd9u2mk7fe a girlfriend on his phone. I mean what else is he going to do the poor schmuck.
I do review a lot of code on the go, so I see the benefit directly. It's all about inclusivity. Way more people have phones than computers.
I am actually liking the exercise of 47. It keeps you in check. Readability is much better.
Fair enough... if it helps you, have at it! I simply would not have the same discipline. 🫡
80 makes sense and works very well. Even on large screens we need it because during code reviews you can have the div side by side and during coding you can have 2-4 files open next to each other.
47 sounds insane.
80 works perfectly for phones in landscape mode. Nobody should be reviewing code on the go anyways. Allow your brain to calm down. Work at your desk, not at your phone.
I think 47 is overdoing it. I do 60/64, still perfectly readable on a phone.
I thought he was married
To his phone lol.
