#Linux #NonTechy
I run Linux Mint, and recently installed some updates, including some related to Cups (printing). My laptop suddenly would not print anymore, i asked AI, tried to troubleshoot. No go. Then someone sent me some comments on the Mint forums related to this. Apparently a recent update broke Cups on alot of machines, including mine. So i decided to try using the Timeshift feature on Mint, and reverted to a date earlier this month, and it worked! I can print again! In case anyone else is having the same issue. I'm hoping the Mint team will send a patch update for this soon.

Damn AI never gets it right π
I once rolled back my openSUSE system by several months.
A change I accidentally made that meant some of my packages were frozen, while others kept updating, and it manifested itself way later.
I remember that moment and thought Ctrl+C would save my ass fast enough π
Oh no, sounds like a nightmare. Luckily my rollback was only a few days.
It was just a matter of picking another snapshot at the boot screen π
Separate /home is great.
It was a bit scary doing the rollback for me, had never used it before.
i use mint too
thanks for this~! ^^
Good on you for your move to Linux. PS just be aware CUPS maintains a log of print jobs and you can reprint anything from the log including if you happened to use your Linux box to print seed phrases or other sensitive info. There is documentation online to turn off logging in CUPS. Iβve only done it with macOS at work because my Linux machine really only ever connects to tor and I donβt print from it.
Good to know, thanks. I need to look into that. I dont print my seed phrases, but thats good to know anyway.
Timeshift is a lifesaver
Oh awesome. Thank you for the notice! I don't print much, but if CUPS is borked, it's good to know ahead of time.
cups is one of the most convoluted and annoying pieces of software. I don't print often, but I think I'll try the FreeBSD daemon next.
