Nostr is for everyone, correct? And the absence of algorithms should create a more open and diverse network, yes? Despite this circumstance we have a bubble here (at least I think we do): Bitcoin, anti-state, libertarian, maybe a tendency towards the right? Of course there are technical, historical and other good reasons for this. Nevertheless: Where are the “others”? Please mention user profiles worth following that brings diversity to Nostr! 🙏 And if you don’t agree with my assessment, change my mind! If you think this post should be seen by many, consider reposting. Thanks!

A matter of time. Always starts with one niche and expands. A function of the features as well. I do think artists and creators will find a home here because of the global payments and as clients better highlight their work (little things like full bleed images and such).
I didn’t know anything about bitcoin when I joined nostr I post like I would on any other “platform”, i feel ridiculously more comfortable posting here than anywhere else. The best thing about nostr is that nobody cares about what you believe in, just how kind and authentic you are.
Agree. Plus bitcoiners knows how private/public keys work. We have to make it as simple and UX friendly as possible for the other groups (while keeping the security & decentralization)
I mean, you’re not wrong. There’s room for growth, socially speaking. But, yes, there is definitely a certain tribal-ness to this place.

Yes to all of the above. I don’t think we bring people over on the selling point of decentralization, data ownership, zaps, and client interoperability. These are huge but I think most people don’t chase these things. They just want to use something that works well and it’s where they’re friends are. We bring them over because a superior product has been built and word of mouth spreads. If we have to explain why it’s valuable it won’t reach mass adoption. Great products and features will show why it’s valuable and on top of that you get those perks mentioned above.
Cypherpunks write code. We know that someone has to write software to defend privacy, and since we can't get privacy unless we all do, we're going to write it. We publish our code so that our fellow Cypherpunks may practice and play with it. Our code is free for all to use, worldwide. We don't much care if you don't approve of the software we write. We know that software can't be destroyed and that a widely dispersed system can't be shut down.

Real followers. Real viewers. Real listeners.
#NostrNests has such upside for musicians. #[5] demonstrated that for us early with a concert. #[6] is providing us with live vibe music in the AM. Once zap functionality fully enabled, will be value for value in real time. People (myself included) love to be part of something live. It is raw and authentic, and zaps enhance connection and community.
There are lots of people on here already, maybe it’s just not a good search experience yet? And the bubble is perhaps just because the bigger accounts are obvious and visible and most other people are kind of invisible? I make music and post it here. Maybe that makes me an artist? Im not daft enough to describe myself as left or right though.

You’re my home 🏡 whereever you go, I go 💋 #[2]
Sadly @peter is right I fear: We've been divided so much, the other side is a cult now. I highly doubt people from the we-want-censorship cult is coming over....
I appreciate this note. This has been my experience after a few days. The folks here are the ones that already have a close proximity to the tech. Bitcoin, libertarians, etc. My sense is that the artists or general pop won’t care so much about how the tech is different, just that it does in fact feel different. In a good way. Hoping to discover, as well as, provide some diversity there ✌️
I love that nostr is what orange pilled you. This wasn’t even possible just a few months ago.
Great post, love seeing questions and discussions like this! Agreed with Jack that it’s just a matter of time. Just need another niche to start looking for a new home. Also, it’s early and I don’t think it’s been determined how communities organize (hash tags? specific relays for certain communities?) I’m along for the ride, should be fun!
As a normie with left leaning tendencies I will do my best to spread the word in my circles. :-) Just arrived here and learning.
When you created twitter did decentralized every get concepted out? Curious
Nostr is in the red-pill, rabbit hole stage. I remember Bitcoin when it was in that stage. Nobody had ever heard of such a thing as a "price" for bitcoin. It just wasn't a thing 🤠
Nostr is a lot like Bitcoin. For many, the legacy systems do everything they need, are easier to use, and have already gone through the network effect. IMO, you won't see widespread usage here until media outlets, sports teams and players, or porn stars are using it -- the typical content that stirs the Internet's drink.
Reddit used to be libertarian before it became far left. Everything that is not explicitly right wing will eventually become far left
